Somebody talk me off the ledge. I went to bed really liking this deal, but now I'm sweating it.

Has this been discussed?

It's not entirely true. We can create the cap space we need in 2 ways.

1) Dump a player or players to create enough cap space but lose our MLE and Bird Rights in the process, or 2) make the Asik deal a 3 way trade with a team that can absorb about $5.3 million more than they send out.

2 is obviously the better option. The PR insider who's posted info in the past said the team was looking at a Ryno to Phoenix for Gerald Green and a 1st deal. A trade centered around Austin Rivers and 3-4 scrubs for a 1st to a team with cap space would work as well.

Watched him play all season. He was limited pt because of Dwight. He is a Solid player. Good free thrower as well.
What? He is a terrible FT shooter.

This is a huge get for y'all. Anthony Davis and Asik is a scary combo.

Also, how does he only count $8M towards the team's salary cap?

Asik's contract is 3 years 25 mil. The first two years of that contract he only received 5 mil salary each, but his cap number for those seasons was still 8.3 mil. So now he has 15 mil left in actual money on the contract, but will up show as 8.3 mil in cap money. Actual dollars 5m, 5m, 15m vs Cap hit 8.3m, 8.3m, 8.3m.

One thing I find kind of humorous is that Pelicans fans liked to talk crap about Asik's poison pill contract and how the Rockets are going to have to pay him $15 million in year 3.

But now, the Rockets only paid him $5 million each of the two years, then dump him off to the Pelicans who will pay him the $15 million for one year.

My concern with this is I don't want to make Phoenix better. We need to leap frog a couple teams in the West to avoid putting a bow on our 2015 pick to Houston. Trading Ryno to a team who will still have 2 1sts and a healthy Bledsoe...

the way i understand it is the pels must move either rivers, gordon or anderson. one of those players has to go to make this work

obviously gordon is preferable, but anderson is more likely.

That is pretty funny to be honest.

But frick it. Not my money. We've made the move, time to see how it works.

I know... Rockets fans said the same thing about the cap hit but Pelicans fans loved to talk about that $15 million. Now it turns out the Rockets got him for a discount and the Pelicans are going to pay him that $15 million they talked so much crap about. Just kind of funny.

:kige:

I don't care about what the owner pays for a certain player, I'm more concerned about salary cap numbers. 8.3 is a good number for Asik.

ETA: I never understood why people cared about the poison pill. I doubt Benson is the low man on the totem pole when it comes to owners worth, the extra 7 mil isn't going to hurt him.

Sean Payton's 1 year vacation covers the balloon payment to Asik.

Tyreke or Holiday could be moved as well, but those 3 are the most likely candidates and one of them has to go.

The reason why we cared about it was because it was the Rockets. If it was the Nuggets no one on here would have cared about the poison pill.

It was all about talking shite with the fricktard Rocket fans on here. That's about it.

This is the same thing everyone said in the last year about trading with Houston for Asik, but teams' FO don't give a shite about that. They are only concerened about making their team better.

Maybe you can get a late 1st, but Rivers and a bag of stale donuts isn't going to net much. With Jrue healthy, Rivers doesn't have much available in the way of minutes

If we move Anderson then I will be pissed. Asik is a great fit to go with Davis, but we need Ryno.

What sucks is he might be the only really tradable player. Ecstatic to have a good C to go with Davis, just hoping it didn't cost too much. We get rid of Gordon and I'm flapping.
