Per Shams

Comes at the heels of Shumpert saying he’s not signing with the Rockets

Bet $1 he signs with Pels if/when DPE is granted

Why would one of them be released? DPE allows you to have an additional roster spot does it not??

one thing to keep in mind
this is not a cap exception just a spending exception

Gayle will be spending another 3,6MM over and above millers 7MM
One thing it does do though is ADD to the available tradeable salary. Miller at 7MM and the exception player at 3.6 is over 10MM in salary that can go out. Combine that with Moore’s 12 and a pick and you get...somebody that makes big money that we don’t know is available right now

Always always always add tradeable salary
Miller wasn’t going to impact gameplay anyway. Sucks for him but this is a windfall for the team

I was under the impression if he’s out for the year with DPE he doesn’t count as a roster player.

I guess it’s a Shumpert vs Kenrich debate if that’s who it ultimately is

I’d cut okafor without a second thought
He’s not an NBA player

Do they seriously have interest in Shumpert?

I don’t know if they do or don’t. Just reading the tea leaves based on news breaking.

Is Shumpert some good locker room guy? That would be news to me. I don't think there's minutes for him here, or anyone we would sign off the street.

Feels like if you're going to give 3.6M to someone just to trade them later, it might as well be someone who can bring something to the team off the court, and i doubt that's Shumpert.
There's plenty of guys out there available that would be better locker room guys.
Lance Thomas was waived by the Knicks and is available. Might as well bring in another Duke guy.

Combine that with Moore’s 12

Moore only makes 8.6. Your general gist is correct though. They could bring back 24.5 mil with just those 3 contracts.

We can bring back 125% + $100k of whatever we send out.
So if we send out $24.5M, we can take back $30.7M, as long as it keeps us under the tax line, which is $132.6M.
We currently have around $117M in salaries, so we are good sending out that $24 and taking back $30M, and we can always add Okafor/Kenrich and add another $3.9M to what we can take back.

This is probably just the media speculating because there just aren't many scraps left. Shumpert is one of the few names being attached to any teams, so you might assume assume that requesting this right now indicates that they have interest. Maybe there is some other name out there. Maybe there's another guy in Europe who could be enticed for that amount. Maybe they just figure they should go ahead and get approval, then keep the powder dry in case something comes up.

I think they are probably wanting to use it in a trade. Does anyone know all of the limitations of using it in a trade? I see that you can only use it on guys in the last year of their deals. What if they have a player option for another? If it's only for guys in the absolute last year, the list gets even smaller. I don't think Shumpert fits our needs at all, so I doubt there is any weight to that rumor. There are several guys that fit better who were in Cleveland with Griffin....

I'm aware of all of this. The 24.5 mil is what we can take back if we send out Miller, Moore, and a 3.6 mil salary. That's the number you get to with 125% of those salaries, plus 100k.

I see what you did, my bad.
I was in my own conversation thinking Lonzo or Ingram was in that $24M, b/c Miller/Moore/Lonzo is $24.4M

Adding that 3.6M to that 24.4M is $28M, with a return of $31.3M, and you can add the 3.9M with Oak/Kenrich if needed and have a maximum return of $35.2M.

No worries, CP3 makes $38M.

I don't think there are any big $30+M/yr guys that are available, and if they are available, they aren't wanted. There's a few around the $25M range though.
