The Lakers have been granted a disabled player exception worth $1.75M from the NBA for the expected season-ending ACL injury to DeMarcus Cousins, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. It expires on March 10, 2020.
Not Pels but it's just crazy that Darius Miller is worth twice as much in the NBA as DeMarcus Cousins.

With him having the PO for next season perhaps they would take the expirings and send us GH with pick(s) so they can have flexibility the following season. I think he is going to have a bounce back season fwiw.

Depending on what happens with Ingram, Beal and Hayward make the most sense for the Pels

Can the DPE be used on a guy with a player option for a second year?
Also, can the DPE be combined with the player the DPE was issued for?

From RealGM:
So, Gordon Hayward is out. Time to move on. Only guys in the true final year of their contract are possible. I'm still trying to determine how the DPE can be combined with other guys. I'm thinking there are major restrictions on combining it with salary, but I'm not sure.
The only thing I've found so far indicates that a players salary must fit into the DPE + $100,000, which seems to indicate that it cannot be combined with existing players to bring in a more expensive player. That seriously reduces the number of trade and buyout options.

They can use that exception to trade for a single player in the last year of his contract (no options!), sign a single free agent on a one year deal, or claim a qualifying player off waivers.

sign a single free agent on a one year deal
1) sign a player who fits the above description, at 3.6MM
2) aggregate that player with miller's 7MM, moore's 8.6MM (19.2MM total) plus whatever else you want
3) trade for whatever player you can want/can get that constitutes a legal trade
once you sign a player with the DPE, you can aggregate hime however you want

That's a whole lot of moving parts. Sounds like the kind of fairytale moves people were using to justify Demps trying to trade CP3 to Houston....

how?
if they use the DPE, it will be on a FA not currently under contract, on a 1 year deal. all the other moving parts are already on the roster. unless they trade holiday for a another max player, any trade for one will require lots of parts

Technically, you're right, but it's very wishful thinking and Santa Clause ain't real.

you said this:
i then showed you how...
maybe i need more coffee but i really dont know what point it is you are making. using the DPE on a player now makes it even easier to make an in-season trade than it was before miller got hurt. in trade terms, its a free 3.6MM trade exception

But that's obviously Kenrich.
At least I think so. I know some people have said Okafor, but we need him for depth at the 5, IMO. If we got rid of Okafor and Favors got hurt, we wouldn't have a true center on the team other than Hayes.

Oak for will contribute this year.

The Pelicans’ newly-generated disabled player exception doesn’t open up a 16th regular-season roster spot for the club, but gives New Orleans some extra cap flexibility to add a player. The exception – which has a March 10 deadline – can be used to to sign a free agent to a one-year deal or to acquire a player on an expiring contract via trade or waivers, assuming his salary fits into the exception.
Since the Pelicans already used all their cap space and their room exception, the $3.625MM DPE could come in handy at the trade deadline or during buyout season. However, if the club isn’t in playoff contention, it’s possible it’ll simply go unused.
New Orleans would lose the DPE if Miller is traded before the exception is used.
