He had good foot work and stance as well as the ability to change directions. He no longer has that and his reaction is slow due to the sheer weight that he's carrying.

You saw glimpses of that guy when he was guarding LaMelo on ball last month.

The bad:
Larry Nance Jr. He was horrible.
Willie Green is still lost when it comes to rotations and adjustments.
Defense was really bad. Only Herb and Naji were doing well on that end.
Also:

No Hawkins

The only good that I can take away from these three games is that we're at least good enough to look like complete shite and still sleepwalk our way to close wins against shite teams.

We'd have lost 1 or 2 of those games with that type of effort in previous seasons.

Im not taking credit away from him in that play. But lamelo was in the corner, shot clock winding down and he lost the ball. Im not saying he wasn’t a solid defender in college but schemes and competition you face can mask a lot of things. He still does highight block like he did at Duke but still is overall a poor defender.

Quiet all game and then brings out the wet Zion blankets postgame. It's not that hard. Zion took over today because Willie went with lineups that maximized him. We have done such a poor job of that this season. I want to see one thing post ASB, cater the team to maximize Zion. That is it.

Didn't watch the game until 4 minutes left.

V-day shite baw.

But by all means, tell me what I said that is blatantly wrong.

His mobility is clearly at a completely different level. That makes all the difference in the world for a guy like him. He just can't move anywhere near what he could after the weight gain. We're talking about defensive fundamentals. He had it coming into the league and was projected to be an A+ defender. Even looked that way early on before his injury and weight gain. Review his rookie preseason tape before he got injured and you see some crazy defensive abilities and it's not just blocks.

Come on man. Are we analyzing his defense rookie year in preseason? I agree he was projected to be a lot of things but in all honesty I don’t think hes ever been a plus defender in the pros. It likely is due to his weight gain but I also think he athletically was just better than most the guys he faced in college. He never adjusted defensively in the NBA and with his weight issues has made his defense even worse.

But it's not even the lack of athleticism that bothers me with his defense. He just gets lost so easily and gets caught ball watching. It's maddening watching him always rush a guy catching the ball for the elbow three, even if the guy isn't a great 3pt shooter, leading to an easy dribble drive.

Yup his defense IQ is horrendous.

Conditioning, weight gain, and laziness that he's developed due to these factors plays a big role in it. He's nowhere near the shape he needs to be in to he a two way player. Until he gets his shite together and get his body where it needs to be, it's going to be a liability on defense since he focuses all his energy on offense.

This shouldn't factor at all in him knowing when and when not to rush a guy off the 3pt line.

It comes down to this.

You’re absolutely right on this point but I don’t know if this will ever happen at least not while hes with the pelicans.

In other news, Kings win in Denver tonight so we go into the break only 3 games back of 4th.

I attribute running low percentage shooters off the line more to the coaching since we've literally seen the entire team do it even Dyson, Herb, Jose, Trey, etc.

This team is going to get destroyed in the playoffs. Our starting unit is horrendous and we’re supposed to shrink our rotation so that they play even more?!
