Riding the momentum of that moment and a wave of optimism in its wake, the New Orleans Pelicans have sold more than 12,000 season-ticket equivalents for the 2019-20 season. It’s the most the franchise has sold in more than a decade, placing New Orleans among the top half of the NBA in terms of total sales.

All courtside seats are purchased. The lower bowl is 95% sold.

And the ultimate sign? The Pelicans are expecting a sellout for their lone preseason game in the Smoothie King Center on October 11 and are even prioritizing seats for the team’s intrasquad practice on October 5.

That’s what happens when you make every correct offseason move. People will rally around this organization just like they do the saints.

they’ve always been able to sell ST packages. The problem is the secondary market has devalued those tickets resulting in empty (but paid for) seats.

Too often the Pelicans have struggled to get ticket-holders into the building, especially for unattractive opponents or inconvenient weeknight games. And the secondary market, which has undercut ticket prices for many years when the team languished, is still an unknown for many fans who are concerned about making an advance purchase.

yes, the problem has never been obtaining STHs. It's always been getting those people to actually show up for games

any viable market can and should be able to sell 10,000 ST equivalents. the hornicans certainly have done that nearly every year.

the problem is, for game atmosphere (which matters to the players, and does affect game play), the lower bowl needs to be full-ish. this is not a problem in the playoffs, but on a tuesday in february against the wizards, it absolutely does matter.

the nola.com article says they've sold 95% of the lower bowl, and all of the three rows courtside. thats fantastic and i'm happy about that. the secondary market will determine whether those seats are actually filled, as nobody goes to all 41 games. i think the focus on 12-game packages is an excellent strategy

Reducing the STs sold to brokers should help.

Okay sure. But don't downplay this.

As a new season ticket holder and going through the process this year, I know they made a serious effort to cut down on ticket brokers too. They would not even allow online sales at times.

I got my tickets yesterday. Did anyone else?

Mine were "just plain tickets", not nicer tickets with player pictures etc. Also, no swag like car stickers. Just came in a paper envelope.

Curious what showed up for everyone else.

I don’t even recall getting actual tix, although I’m sure I have. I default to The seat geek app.
