This isn't even rumor it's "insider" speculation, but :excitedgif:

quote:

While Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau is the leader in the Orlando Magic vacant coaching clubhouse, Scott Skiles and Scott Brooks are still in contention. I’m hearing the Magic job is Thibodeau’s if he so desires, although some basketball insiders are speculating New Orleans could be Thibodeau’s preferred landing spot.

LINK

Despite the letter of thanks to Monty and Demps, it does seem like the team hasn't given them much of a public vote of confidence. If both are under contract then maybe they feel no need to say anything publicly, but I did find it odd that they no commented questions about Demps contract status. He's either in a team option year in which case they'd need to announce picking up or declining the option at some point, or the newer report that this year is now guaranteed is accurate, perhaps triggered by making the playoffs, something else you'd think they'd issue a statement on.

It's almost as if they're waiting for something else to happen...

Why is a there this much speculation around a coach leaving who's team is still very much in the playoffs?

Because this divorce has been an ongoing process for the past few years. A few weeks back I was listening to a Chicago beat writer on the radio and he said Thibs leaving was 95% done and he had already had preliminary talks with Orlando. He also said Chicago management has a history of needing to be bigger than the coach. It sounds like it's just a toxic situation and the worst thing that could happen is they win the title and get stuck with each other longer

Scott Brooks, for all his limitations, is probably the best guy for the job in Orlando considering their current roster.

Will his Pels contract stipulate he must add an "x" to the end of his name if he signs?

You don't read the Racine Journal Times?

Someone on PR posted the excerpt of it that was on Hoops Hype, I just followed HH link to the original source.

it's not happening. Had the team not made the playoffs then it would be 75-80% chance thibs comes here, but it's not happening. Thibs should come be the assistant coach and if things don't work out in the next year or 2, he can move right on up to the HC spot and he will already have experience and knowledge of the team. That's my wish, but it'll never happen.

I wouldn't want him running AD to the ground by playing him 40 minutes a night.

Did you forget to read the rest of the post or just singling out the 7 words that I could have just said by itself that would make no sense. They already have experience at the usa level. Not saying it would ever happen but if would help thibs if he wanted to be the HC 2 years down the road.

Thibs as an assistant under Williams would be like Sherlock Holmes becoming an assistant under Barney Fife.
