for this season.

Most disappointing team

New Orleans Pelicans. Zion Williamson enjoyed a breakout season and was an All-Star, but the Pelicans couldn’t find the team success to match. Even after Jrue Holiday was traded in the offseason, a young core led by Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball was expected to at least compete for a play-in spot and potentially more. Instead, first-year coach Stan Van Gundy never got total buy-in on the defensive end, and the Pelicans finished 11th in the West. Honorable mention: Boston Celtics. — Eppers

All the guys on NBA radio have been saying we were the most disappointing team.

While I agree we were disappointing, Kevin Durant was 23-59 in his 2nd year.
Lebron was 42-40, in a terrible eastern conference. They finished 4th in the East, barely being over .500, which would have put them at 10th in the west, and had they played more western conference teams, they probably finish a few games under .500.
Curry was 36-46 in year 2.
None of them were playing with another all-star in year 2 like Zion is with BI.

Curry is still with the Warriors b/c of who they drafted.
Durant spent 9 years with OKC, b/c of who they drafted.
Lebron jetted after 7 years, and Cleveland never drafted a single player worth a shite during his time there.

What we do this offseason is going to have huge implications on our future. frick it up, and Zion might not even hang around for his 2nd contract. play it right, and you'll have him for at least 6 more years, and if you can build something sustainable, maybe for life.

Certainly was not a problem with Zion and while people want to dog on BI, he is still and All Star caliber and very young player.
Coach is really bad and the GM - meh, at best

Fair assessment. To say this is an important offseason for Griff and company would be an understatement.

From his interview last night, it sounds like he understands what this team needs, but will he be able to execute said plan?

GOP_Tiger said it well in another thread. The failure this season was the vets. Most of the young guys kept getting better as the season progressed. Bledsoe, Adams and JJ all were big disappointments. At the very least you need to replace Bledsoe/JJ with an above average starting guard and an above average shooter.

His name is Darvin Ham.

We can do our best to be winners now.

Or we can waste another 2 years with Stan and scratch and claw our way to 9th and 10th spot of the west and just further confirm our franchise is a joke.

31-41 isn’t far off from where a lot of people expected going into the season. And we wisely tanked at the end of the season to get that record. Next year if we don’t finish above .500 it will be disappointing.

Hey at least it will give this board a few more years to use their favorite excuse.

*Incompetent front office keeps terrible coach*
“Don’t worry guys this is his last season. Just wait til next year!”
*Incompetent front office hires another terrible coach*
“Don’t worry guys it’s his first year they’re still learning the system. Just wait til next year!”

Rinse and repeat until you run off a future hall of famer.

As much as y’all want to hate on SVG. After March, we are rated top 10 in defense. #7 in rating and #10 in EFG.

I say give him another year and see how he does. Griffin needs to find better players for him and build this roster better. We truly need another fascilitator. But I’m glad we can somewhat say we found good bench players in Didi, Naji and Johnson for our forward positions.

However I agree that we are disappointing but I would say that we are somewhat tied with Toronto.

National media guys don't even watch our games they just look at Zion and BI stats. If they watch the games they would understand we have the worst spacing in the league with the most inconsistent guard play.

Just to show you how much national media follow us Vince Carter did our game a few weeks ago and said he doesn't understand why we traded JJ because he brought just what we needed. He didn't even know the bum been sucking all year and demand a trade.

And still with all those problems if Josh wouldn't got hurt we probably be in the play in as the 10th seed.

This effects Ingram more than Zion. Once we find spacers, he definitely will improve. I agree with our guard plays. I’m scared to see what Lonzo will be paid at. Anything over 20 is scary.

Idk how we were most disappointing. Our ceiling this year was always 7th seed at best

I mean it has to either be Pels, Celtics, or the Pacers. Maybe the Rockets since the Harden stuff happened

not how I remember it.

generally td pels were looking at 4 or 5 as best; 6th was common guess
and playin was the floor.
irl warriors and memphis are Above .500.
41 losses is not getting into 10th even.
I expected Pels to be in the 7-10 scrum. like Memphis.

Half a season last year
No offseason
Barely any practice
Games every other day for months

I never expected them to make the playoffs this year. I wanted development more than anything. They found out ALOT about what they have moving forward. That to me was always more important than barely squeaking into the playoffs and getting waxed.

This team wasn’t ready this year. It was Zions “rookie” season.

Like we all knew what this team would be. I just don’t get the hand wringing. We have a real, full offseason for anyone on this roster with this team now for the first time since after the 2019 season. Griffin said last night Kira didn’t even play real basketball for going on 7-8 months before getting to us.

I mean you guys can be goddamn miserable all the time or start appreciating the NECESSARY team building steps it will take to build this the right way.

Lmao no

For Christ sake Lebrun and Curry are about to kick off the play in but a team barely a full NBA year removed from the #1 overall pick was SUPPOSED to make the playoffs.

I mean the problem is, our team was closer to being good than our record indicates. If we were simply average at closing games out we would have been the 5/6 seed and if we were slightly above average at closing games out, we would have been fighting for the 3rd or 4th seed. I know that sounds fricking crazy, but it’s true if you go through our games one by one and see the truly ridiculous fashion we lost about 20 of them in. I’m not saying we should have won all of them, just simply be average at closing them out. For 45 minutes a game, we were arguably a top 8-10 team in the league. In the last 3 minutes we were a bottom 3 team. Part of that is being a young team, but part of it is also being a dumb team that also doesn’t value winning the way it should. To fix those issues, we will probably will have to bring in some new blood that not only has basketball iq, but the proper desire to win, even if that means bringing in borderline assholes that aren’t afraid to hold their teammates and coaching staff accountable for blunders that ultimately cost you games.

.....but that’s what separates a good team from a bad team in sports? Better, veteran teams know how to handle end of game situations. Our two best players are 23 and 20. We have 6 “rookies” playing tons of minutes this year.
Bledsoe acted like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
We got nothing out of JJ/Melli this year before getting traded
We didn’t get JJJ and Ewundu until the trade deadline
Hart missed half the season

Like we can just keep saying over and over again this team should have been better. YOU. CANT. SKIP. STEPS. You don’t get experience without playing the games.
