Video clip of Paul George saying he thinks the old school way of practicing hard helped players stay ready.

“Teams don’t really practice, you know we’re not getting up and down….they think by giving us time off it’s helped managing our bodies but it’s really making us weaker as players.

- Paul George is saying Load Management is hurting players more than it’s helping

I'm no expert, but it's interesting that the Pelicans' best season health-wise in the past 4 years was the SVG season when they practiced a lot, and hard.

Zion played in 61 of 72. Ingram played in 61 of 72. Pels would be cooking with gas if they had that kind of availability from them this season.

We don’t load manage our players. They load manage themselves.

But are we having less demanding practices compared to when SVG was here

If SVG wasn't so bad at everything else maybe he could be a good coach.

When you work out hard everyday it gets easier than working hard 1-2-3 games a week and then taking light days between. Obviously I never played basketball as a pro, it's just my experience from working out in general. The best thing to do when your body feels like shite from the previous day of working out is to WORK OUT.

I don't think this is just fanciful nostalgia of the old days being better. The results of load management don't appear to live up to the promise of load management.

My entirely not so educated guess would be to say yes, our practices are probably less demanding than under SVG.

That is unequivocally not true

SVG went a little viral a couple of months ago for a similar take.

All the rest and load management is supposed to reduce injuries, but it seems injuries are occurring way more than in the past, so...something is amiss if that is indeed correct.

I'm definitely plagiarizing SVG, but he's not wrong.

Load management is sitting or limiting minutes while healthy, but perhaps fatigued. Our guys simply aren’t healthy to begin with. We have never even had the opportunity to load manage Zion or Ingram.

My take on injuries always fall into a few subcategories
1. Contact
Which can be divided into fluky and style of play natural injuries. A player like Steven Adams is a banger. He’s going to get hurt. The broken thumb Zion had under SVG.
Ingrams concussion and toe, fall under fluky this year.
2. Non contact-fitness, physical deficiencies and minutes overload. Boogies achilles tear was non contact, but we were running him into the ground. Zions hammy is a hybrid of all three.

Point being, we will expect Zion to be Kawhi going forward. And if he has to carry more of the load because Ingram is out, the worse it gets. Also, his style play will bring this on him.

Which is why he should learn how to shoot 3s and play more off ball when Ingram is sharing the court.

But that’s the entire story of this era. They don’t play together.

So all of us bashing of the medical staff for keeping players out longer than the standard injury times is valid, and the folks saying the medical staff knows what they are doing was wrong the entire time?
