I believe we have Naji Marshall and Will Magnay on two ways, and Jared Uthoff was a camp invite. Also former guys Tony Carr and Ike Anigbogu. All are with the Eerie Bayhawks in the GLeague

I know it’s a way different ball game but useful players have come up through the G

Through 8 games

Uthoff - 6’9”, 220 out of Iowa. Former Mr Basketball in Iowa. Moves well for a big guy

29 mpg

15.6 ppg oh 51.7% shooting
7.4 rpg
3.8 apg
1.3 spg
.8 bpg
39.5% from 3 on 5.4 attempts
91.7% from the line
113.8 ortg
101.6 drtg

Wonder if he could get a look as a stretch big? He’s tore up the G league the last few years and got some run in the league before

Naji Marshall has been pretty meh

23.7 mpg

12.6 ppg on 42.6% shooting
5 rpg
1.6 apg
1.8 apg
36.4% from 3 on 4.4 attempts

Will Magnay
23.1 mpg

11.5 ppg on 67.6 shooting
5.3 rpg
1.7 apg
1.3 bpg
50% from 3 on 1 attempt

I'm 95% sure Magnay can come in and be more productive than Melli. Melli making one three made Boston shift there enitre defense giving Zion more room. Melli was1-7 from 3 and im sure all 7 were wide open 3s.

Hopefully we can bring in a guy like Uthoff on a 10 day contract and get him some playing time even in a limited role as a stretch big. I really want to see what Zion/Ingram can do with a big who can hit shots at a good clip while spacing the floor.

Uthoffs shooting splits are damn nice. We just need a big to come off the bench and be a threat from range.

doesn't sound meh at all if he can play good defense with it, which is what he was great at in college.
he was 28% on 5 attempts per game his last 2 years in college, so if he can keep that up, ain't nothing meh about it.
And no i'm not calling for him to get minutes. He needs to keep working on his game in the G-League, and maybe once the season comes to an end, if we aren't in playoff contention, he starts to get some minutes to get a feel for the nba game.
I can easily see him following a similar path to Royce O'Neal if he can become a consistent 3 point shooter, something Royce excelled at in college for 4 years.

50% on 1 attempt from 3, huh?

Seriously though, good thread and appreciate the info.

So what's his deal? Why is he in the GLeague? Just not good enough of an athlete?

There are players that emerge from the G for sure (I'm obviously not referring to the Kuminga's of the world that did it to bypass college), but usually they are there for a "reason".

Of course there are always reasons why those types are in the G. Average athlete and was old coming out. He transferred from Wisconsin and had to sit two years before stepping on the floor at Iowa. 5th year guy drafted at 23

When his name popped up people said he was a stretch big, but the numbers just don't back that up. Maybe he knocks them down in practice but he was 6/34 over 3 seasons in international play, and so far in GLeague he's 3/6 which isn't much volume. Not that I had any hopes for him, it just seems odd that people jumped to that conclusion about him when there isn't much to support it.

I watched some of his highlights on Twitter. I think you gotta look like “a guy” vs GLeague talent to have a shot in the NBA. He does not stand out at all

Just a reminder, Winston is one of the Wizards 2 way players. For those that missed it, the Pels let the Wizards use the Bayhawks for some of their players. This presumably was to lower costs for both teams and split the $500k GLeauge Bubble entry fee.

About 0.0001% of guys from the G league (who aren't straight from high school) ever make it in the NBA.

Marshall looked a complete scrub in his 1 game in the NBA but drops 30 in the G League with ease

Y'all need a reality if you think our Bayhawk guys are doing anything in the NBA

You do realize it's possible to develop a player there and turn him into a legit role player in the NBA. It's not some super rare thing that happens. 2nd round picks and undrafted players spend time in the G-League all the time their rookie year. I would say that if by year 2 at some point they aren't given an opportunity to play in the league, the likelihood of them ever making it are extremely low.

Don't let the fact that we have done absolutely nothing the last 10 years in trying to develop our own talent through the 2nd round and undrafted players skew your view on it.

The name of most interest to me is Ryan Pannone, the head coach. None of these players seem that great but he has the Bayhawks leading the GLeauge with an 8-1 record. Maybe they have a good assistant in the pipeline.
