Here's 1985 NBA Finals Game 6...
LINK
Also, another argument I'm sure no one would agree with, these 2 teams full of Hall of Famers, would get their shite completely kicked in and have zero chance of competing in today's NBA...not even close.
It's crazy how far the game has come.

Congrats on picking out a series of five gifs from a 2-decade span.

And that's different than referencing the same finals series over and over again? Lol

I find it pretty funny that people think because the bad boys existed, that it must mean everyone played physical in the NBA.
Fact of the matter is, in the 80's and 90's the game was less physical, less technical and was played at a much slower pace. People on this board just romanticize it because that was the league when they were a kid and, just like with everything, adults associate nostalgia with "unequivocally better"
Fact of the matter is, sports across the board don't really hit the same as an adult as they did when you were a kid, because once you're an adult you realize that these are just dudes playing games, so the meaning isn't as deep as it was when you were younger. It's why boomers think every sport in the 60's and 70's was better.
It's a powerful drug.

I don't disagree that the game is played at a faster pace, but you can't check dudes in 2024 like you could even in the early 2000's. It's not like these injuries are due to physical play either, we're hamstrung by hamstrings. Has nothing to with physical play

What you can't do in good faith is argue that those hard hits were happening all the time every game. Again, there's a reason why you remember those from the gifs you found...if they were happening 10 times a night, you would not remember those specific ones like we all do.

It's the one where Kurt Rambis nearly got his head taken off

Can you quickly tell me about all the other crazy physical plays from that series?

The NBA literally had a player put another player in a full on chokehold last season.

I’m not judging anyone on their age here but say you’re 20 years old at this time and watching a lot of regular season and playoff basketball- that would make you around 60 to 70 years old today. They are the only ones who could give a proper analysis of what basketball was back then. The rest of us were either children or weren’t born- our analysis is just based on random highlights or tape recorded games. Its just not an accurate picture of comparison to todays game where as adults we’re watching a lot more of.
To even argue these points are silly unless you around 65 to 70 and watched indepth basketball in the 1980’s (keep in mind there was no new orleans basketball team then either- so you’re actively watching regular season and playoff basketball without any affinity to Louisiana).

You realize the point you’re making is disastrous to your position right?? What happened to McHale after the Rambis clothesline? He wasn’t even ejected from that game, much less suspended. What happened to Green after choking Gobert? He was ejected and then suspended for five games. Not really a strong point in your favor.

You're making two different points... at least you are trying to.
I said nothing about the fallout, just saying to act like the NBA plays a soft style of basketball now compared to the 80's is largely false.

C’mon. Just take the L on that post. The fact that a clothesline done to a player in the 1980’s didn’t even result in an ejection, much less a suspension, should tell you all you need to know. If you’re being honest.

Clotheslining someone isn't physical basketball.
Because it isn't basketball
Because it isn't basketball

Neither is a chokehold. Im not sure what the posters are arguing here.

We're trying to talk about physical basketball yet we aren't using examples of physical play
