They want to keep cousins long term, which will keep Davis here. They may not absolutely love Gentry, but Cousins has not had a stable FO since he got into the league with a carousel of coaching changes. They will probably boot gentry, hopefully, but they gotta lock in Cousins first and NOT frick up another hire.

Gentry doesn't like Midrange shots. He will probably never run a play for Davis to take one at the end of games. Davis doesn't do well in the isolation and isn't a good enough passer to put the ball in his hands in the closing seconds. Davis hesitates when the shot/lane isn't there. This is the difference between Davis and Cousins, Cousins has never seen a shot that he didn't like. He'll force it regardless. And often times he will out bully you to score.

If you want Davis to close out games, they need to build it around the midrange shot. He'll take it if he's open but if the defense collapse, it'll lead to an open dribble drive to the basket. That's what Monty did well, he allowed Davis to maximize his talents while taking out all unnecessary variables.

I’ve never liked uncle Al, but damn. They were finally getting it. The assists were a thing of beauty. The ball movement was creating wide open shots. We were the second highest scoring team in the league. We need a coach to call TOs on 20-2 runs, and we need some dude waving a towel motivating in defense. Those are Gentry’s flaws.

People are so mad at Gentry that they overlook Finch. In a league full of average retreads that all have maddening flaws, I want a little more time to check out the guy that might be the NFL equivalent of Sean Payton. He's been on the cutting edge of modern NBA offenses. He prototyped Moreyball for Morey in the DLeague and did a good enough job they brought him on as a regular assistant. He is credited with being the architect of a unique 2 big top 5 offense in Denver. The Pels are currently the #7 offense and finally move the ball like good teams do as long as it's not the 3rd quarter.

I'm not ready to commit to 3-4 more years of this, but Demps/Gentry only have one year left so I say let it ride unless there is a top 5 coach available.

Yeah, pulling the plug now seems counterproductive unless there is a can’t miss coach that wriggles free.

uhhh yea---it took Boogie calling AD and getting on his arse for him to wake up and start balling. I've never been the guy that took into account the "attitude players/locker room guys" but it really looks like having players on the team with that aggressive attitude is beneficial to others.

This thread was not wrong when it started. AD playing like Westbrook is due to him actually talking to Westbrook at the All Star Game where Russell talked to him about how he had to play when KD went out, including saying some games he had to put up 40 shots.

The "problem" with AD is he's still just 24 and not a finished product. Hopefully we are seeing AD turn a corner, but you can't call him an Alpha until he actually proves he's an alpha. 6 games isn't a big enough sample size to start saying I Told You So. And we're all Pels fans, so I think about 95% of the people that doubt AD's Alphaness would love to be proven wrong.

I agree, but it takes some time to adjust without your second best player. They basically had to reinvent the offense and start running more in the middle of the season. There's an emotional letdown that compounds when you lose. It happened with Pels fans just like AD. It's the human condition I think haha.

It's not just six games. He's had a couple of bad games but other than that his stats have been MVP worthy since Boogie went down.

I’ll eat crow. He must have read my thread and flocked the frick up. I’m glad he settled in. We need this AD. I’m also the guy that predicted 25-0 the second half of the season.

He's always been able to have big games, he just has never strung them together like this. I was really happy to see this moment at the end of the Phoenix game. At a time when you figured he'd be dead tired he looked pretty damn energized.

Yeah because averaging 28 and 13 on the year is a small sample size.
