Them getting PG is a pipe dream. They're in the same boat as the Cavs in that they have nothing that Indy wants. Even if they got close Boston could jump in and trump any offer. Unless PG outright refuses to resign with them.

Depressing that the Rockets are being aggressive and getting CP3 and targetting PG13 in their moves. We are overpaying Jrue and chasing Justin.

Rockets could do it because they have been good, went to the WCF, and CP specifically wanted to go there.

If we can get to a point where Boogie and AD are signed longterm and we are good (4-5 seed that's competitive), then we can be in play at some point, maybe, to make a trade for a big player.

Unfortunately, it may be that no one wants Jrue in a trade with that contract.

This is going to be an overpay that we're probably stuck with, but I think the Pels will make the playoffs next season if reasonably healthy. Most of us have said we'd be happy with Grizzlies level success, I guess we'll see if that's true because that's probably what we're locking into.

Also, the alternative to Jrue is basically stop gaps waiting for a unicorn. I don't think Hayward/Wall/Butler/George will ever be available to the Pels via FA and they likely won't have the assets to trade for them.

Who's going to be Hayward and George 2 years from now? It's someone currently on their 2nd contract that is good but not good enough to qualify for the new extension or in a situation where they want to leave for greener pastures. That's the true alternative to Holiday, but who's on that list?

Klay Thompson (seems unrealistic but possible)
Harrison Barnes
Kemba Walker
Eric Bledsoe
Bradley Beal
Evan Fournier
Khris Middleton

A few of those guys you can maybe get now to pair with Jrue. Assuming tax is acceptable or avoidable, wouldn't pairing Bledsoe or Fournier with Jrue be better than 2 years of Collison and hoping for Klay, or Kemba?

I mean...they sure as shite better. There is no reason that a team featuring AD,DC and Jrue shouldn't be a 4-6 seed.

Remember when we made the playoffs after a rash of injuries and assumed we'd make it again because the injury luck had to be better the following year but it actually got worse? If this team has taught us anything it's that it can always be worse.

Michael.
This Jrue contract is 27 per. Or starting at 27?

And for 4 years, I hope?

I will put my little nugget there. I have talked to a guy connected with other franchise and we agreed that 23 is exact his value. Nothing more...

Dell Demps at the press conference "we love Jrue, we believe in his game, and wanted to bring the consistency back of core. Justin is Jrue brother, and we believe him and Jrue can play at a high level. Why not overpay these guys?"

I will tell this.
Frick Holiday brothers.

Lets trade 2018 1st rounder for Beverly. Use BAE or trade exception on a big. Add Wanamaker on a minimum.
See how the tax line will look and decide on Asik,Ajinca,Qpon.

The main goal is to be competitive, earn PO and resign Boogie...

I get the argument that our hand is kind of forced to pay Holliday, but isn't that a huge part of our problem? Overpaid contracts "just cause"?

Your hand is never forced. We could definitely not do this.

Yep. It can easily be worse. I'm almost expecting it to be tbh.

New Orleans guard Jrue Holiday will meet with Pelicans officials at the 12:01 a.m. ET start of free agency on Saturday, league sources told The Vertical.

If Holiday, one of the market’s top unrestricted guards and the Pelicans’ primary summer priority, is unable to reach an agreement on a deal to remain with New Orleans, he intends to take meetings elsewhere in the first 48 hours of free agency, league sources said.

New Orleans is boxed into a corner when it comes to Jrue Holiday. Let him walk and the Pelicans only have $13m in room to replace.

sounds like a fait accompli the way MM is talking...
theres no need to meet at "12:01" if a deal is not ready to be signed. and once again, dell demps bids against air

i like jrue, he's a good player, and he might very well be worth 27 or whatever million, who the frick knows. but this is madness not even trying to get him cheaper, which holiday absolutely understands will help make the team better positions to add talent

well run teams have leverage, clown show teams take what they can get

We need a sign and trade deal with Jrue I'm now convinced. It's crazy if Jrue walks we only have 13 mill in cap space.

they can "make" more than 13MM in room if they have to
it's looking like they won't have to

they'll have the MLE and BAE available regardless
assuming that Justin holiday gets the MLE (8.4MM) the BAE can get them a rotation player if they choose wisely. the rest will have to be minimum salary dice rolls

I hope Justin gets less than full MLE...half would be great but I'll take 3/4 at worst
