We definitely have the flexibility to do it.

If expert analysis is correct and Lowry gets 22-24 and Lonzo gets 18-20, and the difference between us and other teams is year 3…

Ideal scenario is Lowry at 22 but 3 years, Lonzo at 18 for, 4 years, and then resign Hart at 9-10ish, you can use full MLE and BAE.

I like Bobby Marks, and he seems more qualified to come up with those figures than most, but all of those amounts seemed low to me. I hope he was right though.

The key is if Miami and Dallas refuse a 3rd year. We could in theory get him for less per year if we are offering 3 which I bet he covets more.

Problem is I think while Miami likely holds firm, Dallas will offer a 3rd year. They are in desperate territory with us.

Let me sort of dream here

Lowry/Forbes/Kira
Lonzo/NAW/Didi
Ingram/Hart/Murphy/Jones
Zion/McDermott
Jonas/Hayes/Minimum 5

If we were willing to be a tax team you could theoretically maneuver in a way to achieve something similar, don’t see it happening though.

I think McBuckets and Robinson are going to get surprising high salaries. Unfortunately Jamychal Green probably will as well, but he is who I would 100% want over McDermott. Tenacious 3 and D vet glue guy and floor raiser for a team. Strong locker room voice and plays hard.

If we lose Lonzo and go the Lowry path, he’s the sort of third vet I’d really like to target. Including because he allows us to do some interesting things with lineups. Including his ability to back up both Ingram and Zion and play with both on the court.

I just can't see Lowry wanting to play with Luka and be his sidekick. In New Orleans, he would have the opportunity to be the real team leader in the locker room, because Zion and BI will let him play that role.

I'd the money is about the same, I think that he will choose us.

If money and years are same he will choose Dallas.

Much bigger city with much better almost everything for an nba player. Much better franchise and owner.

And Luka is a superstar and they would be perceived to be closer to a title.

Ummmm, Zion is considered one also... Pels also have an all around better team. It's alot closer than you think

Yeah, the media and casuals think of Dallas as a rising young team. They're not.

They have Luka. Luka is amazing, but he is much more of a finished product than Zion is.

Who else do the Mavs have who is 23 or under? They have Tyrell Terry, Nate Hinton, and Tyler Bey -- none of whom played in more than 21 games last year or averaged more than 2 points per game.

And they have their draft picks from this year too, right? Oh ... they didn't have any picks.

In contrast, besides Zion, we have the following players 23 or younger:

Ingram
Kira
Jaxson
NAW
Didi
Naji

... and our two new draft picks.

Which one is really a young team on the rise, and which is a team destined for stagnation, unless Luka has significantly more levels to unlock?

The concern with Lowry, by all reports, is that he and Miami like each other.

Of course the other reports, via Lowry himself, is that Lowry wants to set his family up for generations, so money is important. He's flat out saying it.

My guess is it comes down to his pocket book or his heart, and if the team that has his heart(Miami) can bridge enough of the gap with his pocket book, they win.

Simple as that.

So the strongest statement we can make is widening that gap by being the league leading suitor, which worries me.

The fact that Luka carries their shitty roster the way he does shows you how many levels above Zion he is. No guarantee that Zion is ever as good of a number 1 as Luka is now.

That being said. Zion is the clear number 2 young player in the league. Luka is just that good.

I think it also kills the threat of an offer sheet. The Bulls would be better off making it a S&T than dumping guys to clear space. Also, a report I saw on the Bulls said they were looking at 4/$80 for Lonzo. The Pels might be able to keep him for less than $20 per.

The report said over 80 million. That could mean anything.

I mean technically it wouldn't.

Knicks have a ridiculous amount of cap space. I think almost 55 million.

Knicks extending Julius Randle to a max and paying Dennis Schroeder over 20 mil a year would be a thing of beauty. They could be sneaky bad next year. And that’s a good thing. They have looked relatively competent lately and potentially enticing to younger players in the league that will be entering free agency in a few years.
