pels.com just posted Gates' interview. I'm just a few minutes in, but he doesn't even acknowledge Babbitt.

"...basically we have 1.5 returning players with Jeff coming back and then obviously James. Its been fun to have a new group."

Interesting. Good catch...

I could definitely see this sticking.

Ben was a banger, but I don't remember him picking up many technical fouls. Most of Sheed's techs came from his mouth more than anything else.

I thought Eichenhofer said Darius Miller was there earlier.

Could he just been talking about returning summer league? Babbit didn't play summer league last year.

I this what you mean?

By the way, Pelicans PG Russ Smith is wearing uniform #9. Pelicans veteran SF Darius Miller has #2, the number Smith wore at Louisville
I think he's just commenting on why Smith changed his number, not necessarily that Miller was there.

I'm still listening to the presser and Gates mentioned again that Withey's the only guy who's there who's really been with him.

That's what I was thinking.

But why would Smith change his number because of the number Darius has if Darius isn't there?

Southerland wasn't on the summer league team last year either and he counted him as the only other returning player.

Well at the 8:50 mark in the presser, I think we pretty much got our answer.

Fletch starts to ask a question mentioning Babbitt and before he even gets it out Gates says, "uh oh."

I think Gates expected some trade question or question about why he's not there, but Fletcher hit him with a question about Babbitt potentially playing some SF.

Gates answers, "if he's able to join us."

For whatever it's worth, Patric Young mentioned us bringing in Asik when asked what he knows about our roster.

At least this is only once every four years, unlike the "Will Brett Favre retire / unretire" bullshite that NFL fans dealt with for over a decade.

Brett Favre's decision never held the rest of free agency hostage.

I liked where Young said "I'm going to be a witness of his greatness" when talking about AD.

Kentucky dominated UF while AD was a freshman, but Young seemed to hold his own. AD two solid games and one monster game, but Young out up good numbers against him.

this is rather odd
specific to bosh I cannot fathom what he could be deciding about
10+MM per year more to sign with a team on the cusp, or leave that money on the table to wait for lebron to sign a 2 year deal?

it's as if the whole league has decided lebron is required to win a championship when that's clearly not the case

bosh should be gone baby gone and I can't believe it's even an issue for him. Leads me to think he's already told Houston he's coming

If he does Miami is screwed. Brian Windhorst was on ESPN radio about half an hour ago and said that if Bosh leaves, they can't replace him with Melo because McRoberts and Granger would go against cap space rather than exceptions. It'd have to be some multiteam S&T, and what would the Knicks get out of that, Linsanity? They'd have no motivation to help make that happen.

I think what's really happening in Miami is they are trying to get Bosh and Wade more money. The only reason to take pay cuts was to add more significant help than exceptions would allow. I can see LeBron playing a game of chicken threatening to blow it all up if Bosh and Wade don't get paid.

Sure. But if there's a chance LeBron James might sign with you, no one is really going to say "No thanks. We won't make a pitch. We'd prefer to spend our millions on not the best player in world."

The scary part is he might sign a 2 year deal w/ a player option. Could be doing this all over again
