Yeah, I don't quite understand why it is needed. It seems so antiquated.

To keep teams from screwing themselves. Half the suggestions in this thread have been "maybe we can steal an RFA X while Team Y is distracted with Big Fish Z. " That would be a real possibility if this was done in real time, and you'd have some teams with huge wins and some teams very big, franchise crushing losses.

Omer Asik headed to New Orleans, per source. Paperwork done July 15.

I wonder why July 15th? I can see needing a day for travel and a physical, but why 5 days? Will targeting an RFA be part of the process before they submit the Asik trade to the league?

Odd date indeed. I figured that Houston would want it to be complete before the moratorium ended.

ETA: even if this is because they are including a sign and trade with a possible RFA, they should only really need the 12th or 13th.

It seems like we should have stuff lined up and ready to go once the moratorium is over. There is a weekend in the middle of this, but the teams usually are working 24/7 at this time of year. The only thing I can think of where time stands still is if you make an offer to an RFA and you have to wait 3 days for the other team to decide whether or not to match.

Maybe, but it puts Houston in a shitty situation if someone offers Parsons on the first day the moratorium ends and someone like Carmelo hasn't made a decision yet. I don't see how they would agree to that date.

The Pacers offered a five-year, $44 million contract to Stephenson, but sources said the versatile shooting guard believes he's worth much more.

..."Lance and his representatives aren't sure they're going to be able to reach an agreement with the Pacers," a source said. "It's clear they want him back and he wanted to go back, but they may not be able to come to terms."

Several clubs have reached out to Stephenson's agent, Alberto Ebanks, to register their interest, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls, according to sources.

Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets also have interest in Stephenson.

Celtics have agreed to terms with restricted free agent Avery Bradley, according to source.

With Boston drafting a SG and resigning Bradley, does that take them off the list of the potential teams interested in Rivers?

Bird Writes with a possible trade idea:

quote:

The trade I am about to suggest probably makes the Bucks better, and it definitely eases some of the scoring load off Jabari Parker's shoulders.

quote:

This deal, fundamentally, is about cutting costs and injecting more potential depth into New Orleans. Mayo and Ilyasova are both 27, while Middleton is 23. All three players are capable shooters behind the arc. Importantly, with a core of Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, Anthony Davis, and Omer Asik the incoming players would not be expected to lift a particularly heavy load. Let's take a look at the cap after this deal is consummated. For fun, I have included the Pelicans signing C.J. Miles to a two year, $9.2 Million contract in free agency. His deal is designed to take New Orleans right up to the salary cap.

quote:

Jrue Holiday PG
Tyreke Evans SG
Omer Asik C
O.J. Mayo SG 27
Ersan Ilyasova SF/PF
Anthony Davis PF/C
C.J. Miles SG/SF 27
Austin Rivers PG/SG
Alexis Ajinca C 26
Luke Babbitt SF/PF 25
Khris Middleton SG/SF
Jeff Withey PF/C 24
Russ Smith PG 23
Patric Young PF/C

Would give them the 3rd youngest roster, good depth, and multiple guys who can rotate positions.

EG, Ryno, 1st for Asik, Ilyasova, Mayo, Middleton

Would be interesting but I love Ryno.

So, EG and Ryno for Ilyasova, Mayo, and Middleton?

I don't think I'd like that.

Can confirm that the #Celtics & RFA Avery Bradley have agreed to a deal. Terms: 4-year-deal worth $32 million.

More price inflation. Jrue and Tyreke aren't going to look overpaid if this keeps up.

That's a bigger # than I expected for Avery Bradley. Still digesting this market, but it's going to be unpredictable.
lol

4yrs/32mil for Avery Bradley...

NBA writers love Danny Ainge, so the response is "meh, still digesting the market..."

I'm telling you, if Dell just books a spot on a panel at the Sloan Conference these guys would get off his arse.
