I like Collison or Brogdon. It depends what you get in the AD trade.

They're going to prioritize Brogdon over both imo, over Mirotic obviously, no brainer there.

speaking of mirotic, what a turn of events for him.
traded to a ring contender just in time to miss the Davis drama here, looks to be set up to help them win and then cash in somewhere...and he gets played off the court in his teams greatest time of need

a DNP in the last game of the season with everything still in play.
dude just likely lost a shite ton of money

If he's only good enough to be the 5th option there then why and the heck would you pay him 20 million a year. You are using that as a positive but that's more of a negative. It means he isn't good enough to be the second or third option on that team. If I'm paying a guy over 20 million a year he needs to be the second option maybe third on this team and he would be that by default bc this roster isn't as strong

Idk what the deal was but mirotic half assed getting back on D like 2 plays straight and Bud benched him for the next game and a half lol. Half arse effort is AD’s specialty, not Mirotic’s so kinda wonder if he was injured and laboring a bit.

I think it kinda depends on what happens with the AD situation, if he stays, Brogdon would be an awesome complimentary player to the Zion, AD, Jrue core. That team would be elite defensively, have good ball handling, shooting, etc...

If AD leaves, I’d rather pursue D’Angelo Russell.

so would the other 29 teams, including the lakers.
DAR is the nets’ star, they will offer him his max the very second he is eligible.
What possible scenario exists where they would do otherwise?

Eh, there are questions out there about it, not sure that it’s 100%. I mean, it likely is, but you never know. They may go for Kyrie and not want to pair him with Russell, who knows?

I would love Brogdon and Mirotic this offseason. Mirotic would be the perfect 3rd big off the bench to pair with either Zion or AD.

Agreed. Mirotic is a streaky shooter, but even when he is off he changes the gravity of the court. Opposing teams respect the fact that he could go off for 35 in any game. And I found when he was in New Orleans, even when his shot was off, he gave great effort on D and hit the offensive boards. He had plenty of games where he went 1-6 from three but still ended up with 16 pts and 11 boards. Also, his toughness is pretty underrated. When we were on the playoff run in 2018, he played through multiple sprained ankles. I’m all for bringing Niko back at 15m a year or so. He spaces the floor and he’s another guy that I think would fit with the culture they are trying to establish.

I’d like Niko around 12m a year if we shed salary with Davis.

I hate to say, but I kind of agree. No need to blow our cap space immediately. Zion will take a while to develop and we should keep some flexibility for two years from now. UFA & RFA will be Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, James Harden, John Wall, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Paul George, Jrue Holiday, Aaron Gordon, and Zach LaVine.

I’m not even saying we should go after these guys, but teams will want to move assets to try to sign these guys which may put us in a position to get some good players on the cheap.

I don't know. Mirotic disappeared against the Warriors last year too. It's not that he is a bad player. He's very good. He just doesn't do enough on either side to be a difference maker at the highest levels. I'd be wary giving $20m/year to anyone that can't impact the game and see the court in those situations.

I can't recommend this video of Bob Myers enough. Really interesting and thoughtful perspective.

have said this for a while: If Niko were black and had the same exact stats, nobody would call him a shooter. He has occassional hot streaks, but he is a pretty average shooter and always has been. Has the same pigment as Ryno, but he is no Ryno.

For their careers:

Ryno makes 2.0 3 pointers per game, and attempts 5.4.

Niko makes 1.9 3 pointers per game and attempts 5.4.
