How much is it really worth? If you got it in the AD trade from Boston. Could you then turn around and trade it for a good player this year?

Decent chance it doesn't convey until 2021.

ETA: it's a really good asset though unless you see Memphis getting good within the next 2 years

You probably could, but why would you? If we trade with Boston, which I'm hoping we do now, that pick is probably the second most valuable asset in the deal after Tatum.

Given the current situation in the west and Memphis’ likely roster, there is a small chance it conveys this year and a much higher chance it is a top 10 unprotected in 2021, which is scheduled to be a “double class” of players due to the one and done rule ending.

The only team in the west likely to be worse than Memphis is Phoenix. Every other team is going into this season in a better situation than they ended it.

Pels and Mavs won’t be tanking. Lakers are theoretically healthier. Kings will continue pushing toward the playoffs. Etc.

By contast, the Grizzlies’ roster is set to be Conley (likely traded), Valaciunas, and Ja Morant as of now.

shite could happen and Memphis could end up in the playoffs this year or the next, but the likelihood is they aren’t going anywhere for a few years.

Exactly and we all saw that with the new lottery changes, they don't need to be a bottom 3 team in order to strike gold with that pick. We'd be crazy to trade it unless it gets us a true star.

If the class is as packed as predicted, it could convey as 10th and we could still get a solid player.

I think the pick has the most value to Memphis. It would let them tank on their own schedule to build around Morant. We just need to figure out how they can get us something we want.

see anything you like?
they would have to flip something to us worth a 1st from any conley trade they might make...which might make sense.

i mean, they would likely trade conley straight up for their pick back

With the amount of teams that tank from year to year the pick will fall outside of the top picks unless you get lucky. Memphis will keep the pick next year and then covey a 6-10 pick the following year.

Like Sacramento this year when they have no reason to lose they win more often.

Before last year everyone thought the Sacramento pick this year would be top 5. It wasn’t.

Nah I couldn't see them(SAC) being as bad as NYK/PHX/CLE/ATL/CHI etc

Atlanta and Chicago will probably move out of that tier 2 years from now.

Atlanta could move out of that tier sooner since they are showing signs of life.

I don’t have that kind of confidence in Chicago turning it around considering the complete mess of their ownership, front office, and coach.

The money these guys make is incredible. Mike Conley pulling in 30+ million a year.

Very valuable. But I’d rather Knicks because you get a 2021 from Dallas and number three this year. 2021s are key.

I'd take the Grizz pick over a unprotected 2021 from Dallas or Miami, if I were you.

Even accounting for the possibility that it might not roll over to 2021, still a higher chance of it being top 5 that year. Dallas and Miami are not teams that are going to pull a multi-year tank.

The Miami pick could get interesting if only because there is no telling what Riley does there.

That roster is a shite show with guys like Ryan Anderson, Hassan Whiteside, Gorman Dragic, and Dion Waiters all either owed big money or have options for big money (Anderson has a team option. All others are player options)

I put in another thread that if we do the Boston package and get Tatum and the Grizz pick for AD. We should try and trade Jrue for #3 if the Knicks get KD and one of Kyrie, Butler or Kemba. They will have to trade to get that third star on the roster. We can take any matching salary players to make the trade work. Then trade the Grizz their pick back to switch 2 and 3. I think they take it if they have RJ and Ja rated close.

A starting 4 of Ja, Brown/smart, Tatum and Zion is a great start to a rebuild.

I'd probably rate the Grizz pick slightly above the Mavs pick and way ahead of the Mavs pick. The downside of the Grizz pick is the top 6 protection next year (i.e. not unprotected). But you are right, there is a decent chance of it being top 6 next year.
