Does anyone actually have antennas on their tvs? How would this work for folks that just have smart tvs, cable, or restaurants/bars?

Yeah this is a real FU by the pels to people who don't know how TVs, cable, and local stations work

This so desperately needs to happen. The pelicans have such a painfully poor local presence, and this is a major part of it.

When you go to a bar or restaurant with TV’s in New Orleans during a pelicans game, the game should be on. It never is.

The games - and by extension the team- are just not easily accessible through Bally’s.

This team with Joel and AD calling the games on basic fox across the region would be huge to grow a real fanbase.

The article says the over the air option with Fox can reach up to 7 million viewers, so more than likely Fox44 will carry the games for the BR area

Ok so if they follow the same formula with the Pelicans as they do with the Saints... it's a deal with Gray Television... not FOX

which would mean Pelicans games... like Saints preseason games... would actually be on BR's Gray Television-owned station... WAFB and not FOX 44

The bars and restaurants can put it on Channel 8.

Those with Cable can put it on Channel 8.

Those with a smart tv will need to pay for Hulu, YTTV, etc. and put it on Fox 8.

I don't understand what the frick you're asking.

Indeed it is. It needs to be Fox8 in New Orleans as well as Fox44 in Baton Rouge and the Fox channel in Lafayette.

It would be the Gray station in BR which would be WAFB. I don’t believe Lafayette has a Gray affiliate

I’ve had no problems with Pels’ games on Bally. But, whatever. As long as the broadcast crew remains as is, I’m fine with local Fox.

You're the only one then. It might be the worst app off all time. For my tablet and Roku.

It's also $20 a month. I know it's just $20 but you basically are only getting one thing out of it. It's a streaming service with 0.0000001% of the catalog and quality as something like Netflix or MAX and somehow more expensive.

I have the same question as I did with BR

Is it a deal with FOX or Gray b/c that will change what TV station shows it

It could end up being the local Gray owned station... not necessarily the local FOX affiliate

Over the air won't mean that every streaming option will have it, although the only reason why they wouldn't is if the channel rights contract came up. There may or may not be clauses for this, but I can see it as something a station would want if it obtained a valuable property.

Long term after this season I'm not expecting a full season on Fox 8 that'd require giving up so many prime time spots, at least not in next few years. The best fit is something like WUPL that's over the air but doesn't preclude national programming. Fox 8 isn't going to air multiple Pels games over the Masked Singer. This also means that any of 10 games Fox 8 has would be off peak TV times like weekend games.

So having a secondary station also means that the station owner can double dip by charging Cox, YTTV, Fubo, etc more for the previously cheap station. I believe this is exactly what happened in Phoenix when games were placed on a family channel and there's been an argument over costs for YTTV to carry the station.

Does whatever station owning Fox 8 have a station like WUPL?

That's all to say that if you have an attena you'll be fine indefinitely but if receiving the channel through anyone else it'd eventually be the same problem with stations and carriers arguing over fees.

Or just get an antenna to get local channels for free. Basic antennas are like $10. Someone posted a standing one, but little flat ones that you can tuck away can be great too, although reception can depend on what part of your house your TV is located. For example LINK

If you don't have cable but your place is still wired with an coaxial line near your tv, you can even just use that coaxial line to connect the antenna outside your house. The coaxial line would be like a pre-installed extension cord for the antenna that goes to the outside of your house, works great.

Antennas are also great if the internet or cable is down.

If the broadcast is over the air the free internet streams will be very easy to find online.

I don’t expect it to be on normal Fox 8, I was thinking it would be 8.1 or 8.2 BS channel. Hope I’m wrong.
