I love how this is gonna turn into a battle between the Rougarou and Pelicans camps.
Literally 2 of the 5 worst names in the history of professional sports

I'm not being hipster ironic. I think it's an awesome name. People wanted unique to the state and culture and such. This fits that bill. It goes with everything New Orleans...people outside the state have no idea what half the shite we do is. I was talking about King Cake in New York the other day and my entire class had no idea. I love that. That's why I love the name.
Plus, the possibilities for the logo could be pretty awesome.
For the record, I'm opening up to Pelicans. But right when I saw the name I wanted it.

Yeah I can't wait for our city to be labeled as the stereotypical uneducated Cajun bayou dweller! Nothing like a team name that sounds like it was picked by the cast of Swamp People.

When was the last time anyone in this state gave a shite about what anyone outside the state thought of it?

When we're choosing something to send around to be seen in person and on TV by the entire country, I think we need to care. This is the one name I have legitimately despised. I would pick Bounce and Spirit before this horrible name.

So Krewe would be fine with you but Rougarou is crossing the line?
Posted on 12/18/12 at 10:31 pm to tehchampion140
The crowd could howl after every made three pointer

So I can count you in for the bounce camp? Great! Sending the t shirt and literature ASAP.

I never liked Krewe but it at least sounds normal and passable. This French mythical creature crap that no one will understand is just awful.

And Voodoo? Another name that 90% of the country outside the states bordering Louisiana wouldn't get.
Like I said earlier, Pelicans is growing on me. But Rougarou is so out there it just seems to work for me.

People know what Voodoo is outside of Louisiana. I wasn't a big supporter of that either but it's not horrible and already worked in another sport.
Being "out there" isn't really what we should shoot for. All Rougarou does is make us a bigger laughing stock than Pelicans and furthers a dumb Cajun swamp-dweller stereotype.

You greatly overestimate what people do and don't get about Louisiana culture. I bet fewer people than you would think know what it is. 7 out of the 9 in my class had never heard of King Cake and quite a few didn't even know that red beans and rice was a meal.
I'm sure Voodoo had many doubters other than you and it worked. I don't think Rougarou is what it will be. But I really do like it. But to each his own.

I really don't get this. How does it further a stupid Cajun stereotype and make LA look bad?
It would be unique and probably draw some interest from the casual fan. It could provide some cool art work and themes for the team.
It is much better than names like the Heat and Thunder.

So many people think that everything Cajun is stupid. I fricking love Cajuns. I love all the Cajun stories, Cajun food, and Cajun curse words I learned as a kid. If you don't like it, go frick yourself. I honestly couldn't care less what some tool bag from New England thinks of my culture.
