The NBA is requesting $2.5 Billion towards expanding the league. They are expecting offers to come from Seattle and Vegas. If these cities get new teams what do you suppose the chances are the Pels get moved to the east?

Looking at the NBA city map, I would believe New Orleans and Memphis would be the two most likely candidates. Does anyone suspect otherwise?

Well, if you add two teams West only one team would move from the West to the East.

It would be us or Memphis. My money would be on Memphis because I doubt we are going to catch that much of a break.

I could I guess see the Zion factor playing in and wanting another star in the Eastern Conference. But I'd place money on Memphis.

How would only 1 team move? If there's 32 teams it's 15 15 right now. Add two to west it'll be 17 15. So only 1 would move over to make it 16 16. I get it now. Thanks.

That’s true, and looking at the map Memphis is slightly more east than New Orleans....can’t seem to catch a break lol

Minnesota will also be considered. Although they’re not as far East as NO and MEM, they’re close to Milwaukee and Chicago, where as they are not really anywhere close to another West team. I could see a lot of West teams backing Min because it will cut down on a lot of flight time for their teams not to have to travel there.

Cuban for instance is against expansion, and he does have a point.

He basically says its a 5 billion dollar loan. 2.5 bill each team, with that money spread out between the owners...

But now there are two more owners that participate in revenue sharing, and the revenue likely doesn't go up enough for it to be a positive for all teams.

And the player pool is already shallow, imagine two more teams.

I really don’t think the NBA should expand. Is there that much of a market for 60% of the already existing teams to be diluted even more?

Player Pool is consolidated to a few teams. Your super teams or super duos right now will become big 3 soon enough.

Fix that by removing a contract cap, the whole MLE/BLE/tax exemption, etc.

LA Lakers were champs last year, somehow add more talent with more $. It makes no sense. any other league and they'd "lose talent" to make it harder to repeat.

I'd shift to a hard cap but no max contract.

Sounds like a stupid idea. I’d rather take two teams away than add two.
Invest the money into the G-League.

Which owners would be interested in selling though?

I’m not sure how that would work either. If they were dissolve a franchise without moving it, would it be like imminent domain? I guess they get compensated for their assets, and pay the guaranteed contracts out.

I might cry....

Regardless of a couple owners misgivings, this is going to happen inevitably. Also, in the next couple years we should expect no restrictions out of high school for the draft. So there will be more players available.

Is it though?

I feel the nba is the most talented it’s been top to bottom in forever.

And yet, as usual, only a very small handful of teams, almost all in the largest of markets, have even a remote shot at winning the title.

Now imagine two more teams that won't be traditional powers watering down the draft and free agent pool.

Expansion hurts small markets much more than large markets.

The ONLY benefit for us would be if we got moved to the East.

I really want Seattle to get a team but Bunchie is right this will not help us in the long run unless we are moving conferences which is no guarantee.

I’d hate it for another fanbase but makes more sense to relocate a franchise than expand the league at this point.

The teams don't get any money out of a sale and relocation like they do with expansion, which is the whole reason this is all being discussed.
