My Guess On The Zion Injury

It doesn’t appear to be a serious knee injury from what I can tell in the short clips. I would fear an MCL or LCL grade two type. Or an injury to the meniscus would be my best bet. ACL would be my biggest fear of course, but I just can’t see where that would have happened.
It looks more to me as a quad/groin or low calf/Achilles injury.
When he gets up off the bench in frustration, his knees looked good. It’s when took his first steps that I notice his common duck walk with more of a limp. That would tell me it’s a strain/tear of some sort. Where? I really can’t tell.. but I would bet that it wasn’t a serious knee injury vs some other type like an Achilles or quad.
Only other differential would be a stress fracture of some sort that would have alerted them he could further injury it.
I just don’t think they would have enough time - even with an x ray and no fracture, to properly evaluate the knee ligaments and determine severity of a muscle tear. Simple tests could have also showed an upper leg or achilles injury despite his awkward ROM. Which would mean he would need further imaging (MRI) to see what grade it is.

It's probably his hamstring again. He acted the same way when he pulled it last time...got pissed and walked off. He knew what the injury was, so it's likely something he's experienced before.

Thanks. I typed it fast after trying to rewatch the injury on tv. It’s nearly impossible to tell. His gait is already awkward. This has to be one weirdest and oddly timed injuries I think I have ever seen. I really just hope it’s not something that he would need repair on (other than a meniscus).

so we got 2 doctors on Pels Talk, one saying he guarantees it's his ACL, and one saying it's not a knee injury.... guess we'll see who's the better MD out of y'all two... bookmarked both threads, fwiw

I mean hes walking out in good sprits without a limp or brace. Honestly might be nothing but they wanted to check to make sure.

I’m an MD. I’m gonna go hamstring. Last year when he injured it he had almost the same reaction. I think he may have even played a few minutes on it.

It was a cramp. I'm an avid webMD reader.

Last year he pulled himself immediately and had a huge limp. He could barely walk. It was mid dribble and he couldn’t even dribble the ball anymore. I don’t know this reaction seened much less severe but who knows.

i'm a PharmD, and i think it's either hamstring or groin....
