Naw wouldn't be the one Murphy would replace in the starting lineup. Graham would move into his natural 6th man role if Trey is ready to start early.

Just finishing last night's game, and I'm still so impressed with Murphy.
He's not going to start at the beginning of the season, but I can definitely see it happening by January.
At a minimum, he's going to play 20+ minutes a game. He is absolutely the steal of the draft.

I understand what is being said about summer League but basketball is a sport that's a little easier to see if a person is a player or not. Can he shoot? Does he see the court? Can he defend? Does he have length? Does he have a feel for the game? Does he have good footwork? These things can be seen. I'm not saying he'll start but it's obvious that he has more potential than most of us originally thought.

I don’t see why people assume he’d take Nickeil’s place if he started. NAW drives and defends. I would see Graham as the person who’s spot he takes.
As for the Summer League caveat, we do need to see him do this against better competition, but I think he will hold up. He’s 21, not 19, so you don’t have to wait for him to put on enough strength to not be thrown around like a rag doll. His BB IQ also looks mature beyond its years. He was making adjustments defensively like switching assignments proactively and he was very good at standing his ground and going vertical without fouling.
He looks the part now. The only question is will he keep looking like that as the competition increases. Pre season is the next test.

NAW gets the start at guard. He's earned it from his play late last year against REGULAR NBA TALENT. Plus, its time to see if NAW is a part of the core bc he will be due a 2nd contract soon.
Also, better to let Trey come in and get minutes with the starters and be a primary scoring option with the 2nd unit. Kira's speed and drives to the paint will have Trey feasting from outside the arc.
Now, if NAW struggles out the gate aftef say 5-10 games, then I assume Willie will make the switch to Hart or whomever we get for Hart in a sign and trade. But, if Trey looks good in his minutes with the starters, then he probably is inserted over Hart. Cant forget about Satoransky as well.
Im just glad we finally have legitimate options to go to if someone in the backcourt struggles. Compared to this upcoming year, last year's bench was criminal.

People calm down. NAW is going to be on the floor. Please stop trying to force a point guard onto the floor simply because that is the title of his position. We have NAW, BI, and Zion that can initiate the offense from the top and be effective.
Plus, with NAW, BI, Murphy, Zion, and Valanciunas, as our starters, our results will be very interesting.

I agree with this mostly, but it's hard for me to look at Trey and imagining him on the bench. A guy like Naji I think you can argue what he's done in SL won't translate (at least not fully) to the regular season, but I think Trey translates.
He's going to remain a knock down shooter, and will probably get even more open looks playing alongside the real squad, and while the offensive ability of the opponents will go up it's not like this team has a bunch of lock down perimeter defenders, especially ones that are 6'9. Even if he takes a slight step back in his defensive effectiveness, he still brings something there nobody else really does.

I'm not sure people understand how rare it is to draft at #17 & #35, & still manage to find 2 guys who will eventually be MAJOR contributors to your team. Murphy will be a starter, as soon as Willie finds a way to work around the egos of other players involved and Herb, after a bit of work offensively, will be getting 25 minutes a game & probably should VERY soon be part of your best "finishing team".
I'm "fresh meat" here, so, think what you wish but I THINK I know what Murphy can add to this team...and I KNOW...what Herb can add to this team. Overall, an amazing draft by the Pels.

Why is everybody so big on Herb? People are up in arms about Didi simply getting a roster spot because he contributes nothing on offense, Herb is kind of the same way. A good defender but he has no shot and blew a ton of layups.

There were 5 guys on the summer league roster we all watched.
Kira, Didi, Naji, Murphy, Herb. No one else really mattered.
Kira finished with a +41
Murphy finished with a +38
Naji finished with a +30
Didi finished with a +24
good ole Herb finished with a +48, and he played a good bit less total minutes than the 4 above.
His defense is legit. that was plain to see. His offense will obviously have some work to do, but he seems like a very smart player that will learn when and when not to do things. He knows he's a role player. If he can knock down a corner 3 and be a good cutter/finisher, then he'll without a doubt start to get some minutes. I doubt he will early on, but once the injury bug comes around and he gets his chances, he'll start to earn minutes going forward. He's never going to do anything in the box score that will impress anyone, but that doesn't mean he can't have a big impact on a game.
The difference between Didi's no offense and Herb's is that Didi put up a bunch of shots, and missed many of them. Herb did not. He played a similar role in the summer league that he would in a regular season game. We have more than enough fire power on offense to rely on if Herb is in the game, and being active off the ball cutting and going after offensive rebounds can make up for his inability to draw attention shooting. When your defender is more worried about stopping Zion and BI, smart players find a way to find a lane to get themselves open for an easy layup b/c their defender isn't paying attention to them.

Problem with moving Graham to the bench is you’d have to rely on a hodgepodge of facilitators and Boston and LAL and LAC really showed you kind of want that more natural point guard out there even if you have a few guys that can play that dual facilitator role.

I think Herb has a better chance to eventually develop into a every night rotation player, but he's not there yet. I do like him though.

True but the way he's producing is the type of indicator you want.
Some dudes (mostly guards) win Summer League MVPs bc they have the ball in their hands and get a large volume of shots. These types of performances is where you pump the brakes.
Murphy is doing everything within the flow of the game off the ball. Also, his defensive ability makes for an easier transition.

I never want to count on rookies for big minutes on a playoff team, but you couldn't have asked for a better performance by Trey. Kira showed that he shouldn't be counted on for minutes at all though.

Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball and Jonas Val were summer league most valuable players.
