The Pelicans are over the cap with Asik on the books. They can't even afford Aminu. Aminu made like $4 Million last season.

We have Aminu's Bird Rights, so we could sign him to whatever. I don't think he'd be terrible as a reserve SF, if we get a decent SF with the MLE.

Hopefully not, because I'm not sure how gettable Tucker is which puts trading for Martell Webster at the top of the list of likely options for me.

You really think Ariza won't get more than the MLE if he doesn't get resigned by Washington? He's still pretty young (29), I could see him getting something like 3 years 25 mil.

Ariza is a veteran role playing starter and his best fit is with playoff or near playoff level teams. Those type of teams with cap space that also have need of a starting SF are:

Atlanta - They do have cap space and Ariza is a slight upgrade over DeMare Carroll
Dallas - Not sure how the recent trade affects their cap space and they probably would prefer to bring back Marion than pay Ariza 4/$30.
Cleveland - Just drafted Wiggins, why commit to Ariza long term?
Charlotte - Maybe if they are ready to give up on MKG
Detroit - Maybe if they S&T Monroe to open up cap space and slide Smith to PF
Phoenix - We can only hope (would make PJ Tucker more available). Although if PJ Tucker is as good as they say, I don't see why Phoenix would choose Ariza over him unless they were in playoffs or bust mode.
New Orleans - No longer have cap space unless we dump Gordon.

So of that list of potential teams, Atlanta is the one with the fewest "ifs" and "maybes" about it. Is it possible more teams are hot for Ariza than Washington? Yes. Is it likely? Several other dominoes would have to fall first.

That's more of what I'm expecting to get. He really turned it on in a contract year.

I would look at trade sceneraios more so than Free Agency. Teams like Washington and Phoenix with multiple guys at SF (even though Tucker and Ariza are FAs, a S/T can still be done), who could be an upgrade here may be a real option.

I would literally puke if we even brought Beasley in for a visit. Dude is trash.

I'm still hopeful Demps can find a way to get in on a Dunleavy dumping. That's the guy they need. He can give about 25MPG (so you can get Evans ~30MPG), can handle and shoot and is smart enough defensively to play for Thibs. Seems like he is the odd man out after drafting McDermott and their upcoming bid for Melo.

Tell Dell to do this at the W. They give you Saran Wrap for just such an occasion.

Or so I am told.

I thought we wanted a SF that could shoot? Are we really going to buy his outlier season last year from 3pt range?

I'm not sure I'd go that far, but we do seem to have a problem in that trades could be a better path than FA, but once you trade Rivers to create cap space for Asik, the only bullets left in the chamber not named Ryan Anderson are a S&T of Aminu, Smith and Roberts. I'm like you and really want to see this elite 3 big rotation in action, but this is going to be hard to pull off.

He shot 36.4% the previous year on 3.7 shots per game. Not as good as the 40.7% on 5.7 shots per game, but that's a lot of attempts at an adequate to very good rate to think he's going to all of a sudden go back to being the 33% Ariza we knew.

I'm on the same boat as you LE. I really don't buy it.

But lots of other people on here seem to. We'll see.

How do you fluke or fake being decent to very good for 2 straight years? This is shooting, it's not an effort stat that can easily be inflated in a contract year.

PJ Tucker and Marvin Williams both seem like good fits

Butler. Maybe we get lucky and dump Gordon at the deadline. Decent stop gap.

This is just part of the RFA process. Phoenix extends an offer for a predefined amount, in this case it looks like it's only $1.1 million. He'll shop for offers from other teams starting July 1st. In the meantime Phoenix will be making it's own moves. If they sign an upgrade at SF like Luol Deng, the speculation is that you can probably get Tucker for the full MLE, possibly via S&T. If they don't get an upgrade at SF Phoenix would likely match any offer we would make to him.
