Joel and AD are talking Jenkins up now. Baffled by the decision.

I watched Winhorst's take on the situation and it makes much more sense now.
He basically said that Memphis "asked" Jenkins to fire all of his offensive staff after last season and the front office brought in some "offgrid" overseas guys to replace them. They hired Iisalo as an assistant who was still under contract with the Paris Basketball team. So they paid for the buy out and hired him to run his offense this year.
So the issues started 6-8 weeks ago when they were really struggling and Jenkins started to move them away from their new offense and back to his bread and butter offense and the front office had a problem with that. They wanted to continue with Iisalo's offense even if it was detrimental to their success.
Their new offense doesn't run screens, P&R, or any typical NBA actions which is ironic since their players have thrived playing this style.
It sounds like they were destined to part ways since their vision is wildly different. It sounds like Iisalo was always going to be their guy.

That makes more sense. I still think he’s a good coach and I’ll say that facing his offenses are usually a pain in the arse going against them.

Morant did not, however, like the new offense. He has played in just 43 games this season, missing this most recent stretch because of a hamstring injury while also dealing with right shoulder soreness. But when he’s been on the court, according to a league source, Morant has complained about the new scheme, which takes the ball out of his hands and removes the screens he likes to use as a ball handler to make plays.
One league source who has seen Morant work out with the Grizzlies recently said, “Some days he looks like he’s ready to play, and some days he looks like he doesn’t want to be there … because he hates the offense.”
Jenkins had begun to reinstall some of the plays Morant likes, a league source said, reimplementing the pick-and-roll and other plays involving screens Morant could use to break free. If doing so angered Kleiman and played a role in Jenkins’ firing, one could understand, but LaRoche was the driving force behind the Grizzlies going away from ball screens to begin with — and he’s gone too.
Here's another interesting tidbit. They also fired LaRoche today also. Looks like Morant is on his way out. Bring in Jenkins and Ja will force his way here with him.

We as in the people who actually control change in the organization. They gave him an extension.

Z for Ja trade

I think the hope was to always pair Zion and Morant together.
So if the Grizzlies flame out early and Morant demands out, what would it take to get Morant here?
What if we got pick #4 and added another 1st (2027), a couple of swaps, Murphy and Missi? Is that too much? Not enough?

If you actually got both of those guys to buy in and more importantly do something that is impossible it seems (stay healthy), you can actually win a championship.
Add in Trey and a draft pick? WHEW
FYI if Ja wants out we arent giving them Trey or any draft pick above 4.

Then what are you offering?
I know the value tables have slipped a bit, but I would think Morant's value would be comparable to Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell got traded for Markkanen (who got maxed a year later), Sexton, Ogbaji (who was just drafted 14th), 3 future 1sts, and 2 swaps. We would have to offer something pretty significant..

Warchest is deplete, you don't have the assets to get ja without either trading your entire future (like 5 picks) or a combination of cap balancing pieces (McCollum or Murray) with a young talent (murphy or missi and Herb)

morant
2025-26 Salary: $39 million
2026-27 Salary: $42 million
2027-28 Salary: $44 million
not going to do the math because this would never happen but i assume we would have to send back more salary

CJ
Herb
2 FRP
Gives Grizz a large expiring or trade piece for something they want at the trade deadline / cap flexibility the following year.
Herb is great defender and would have JJJ backing him at the rim.
If an additional FRP is what holds it up I still do it.

Grizzlies front office sounds about as stupid as the Mavs.
After seeing why they fired him…..
YES GO HIRE HIM RIGHT NOW!
