I wonder what Dennis' role will be as well?

Which makes it even worse, imo
Actually that makes it better. The reason Loomis gets credit was because there was no one else to publicly give it to. Until an article in the last year or 2 no one outside of Airline Drive had even heard of Rick Rieprish even though he's such a big part of the teams success he got a GM interview this offseason despite only being a scouting director. To me that's not a sign of Loomis telling his subordinates who to pick, it's a sign of Loomis looking good because he lets good employees do their job.

I think a couple of people are reacting prematurely to this news. It was not unexpected. Ownership has the option to approve trades, signings, etc., in any NBA team. From what I can tell, there are varying management structures with NBA teams. It appears to me that Loomis will simply be Benson's eyes, ears and adviser. I just don't see any evidence that Loomis will interfere with Demps' job. Time will tell, of course.

Saints fans are such a paranoid bunch.

Loomis is the cap man and business manager for the Saints. He doesn't make many personnel decisions, he just makes the money line up. I would think the Hornets need someone with that type of talent, especially in the beginning. Demps might know player evaluation, but that is a tiny part of running a huge business like the Hornets should be. I'm sure that is Benson's train of thought and I agree with him.
It's also time alot of us acknowledge that Demps is still really young and is learning on the job. He can use all the help he can get.

Well around the league loomis is widely known not to be a football guy. He's a salary cap guru and lets the scouts and other personnel do their jobs . The hornets will be fine under loomis.

You know, the Saints were one QB away from being a run of the mill team in 2006. Not taking anything away from what they've done. I'm a humongous fan. But if they didn't sign Brees back in the day, is Loomis the greatest thing since sliced bread? I don't think I'd keep him around by B-ball team.

Have you seen all the signings and restructurings this offseason? He's pretty good at managing the cap.

The problem with Loomis is the media has given him too much credit in personnel matters when it sounds like he's still pretty much the head bean counter and contract negotiator.

Why wouldn't you want a savvy business man and NFL salary cap guru near your basketball team? I can think of many areas where he can help Demps. There is probably plenty of knowledge, technology and relationships that will have some level of overlap. Loomis is still GM of the Saints so anyone that thinks he's going to push Demps to the side is just being paranoid IMO.

But if Loomis is opening his mouth about what they should do at PF im out if im Demps.
yeah, that's exactly what I bet is going on

This is utterly false. Loomis has been around football his entire life and is the end of the line on all personnel decisions. He may rely on others to help with them, but he makes the end decision.
Anyway...
Loomis will be acting as the "owner" here. Benson is old, has a lot of holdings, and doesn't have the time to dedicate himself full time. And he doesn't know much about basketball.
He also doesn't know Demps and couldn't possibly trust him enough to give him complete autonomy. He knows Loomis. He trusts him.
There's nothing ominous about this.

Not really. A poster on the saints board said it best when he said,
"Goodell suspended Saints personnel 77 games altogether.
77.
frick YES WE WANT TO SEE THE EVIDENCE."
/End hijack
I think everyone is overeacting to this. Remember Loomis is only suspended for half of a season. He's not gonna be the new GM

Its ok with me....BUT I like Demps and don't want him looking over his shoulder either
I think one of the best things the Hornets do have is Demps and Monty----hopefully we don't change just for the sake of change

I think this is more of a pr move. With Loomis suspended, Benson is trying to give fans/potential fans something to relate too and generate interest in the team. Loomis won't physically be doing much at all

No, really. Saints fans are as paranoid a fanbase as there is in sports. Is some of the backlash right now justified? Sure, but that doesn't mean they aren't paranoid.

I think it's much more than a PR move. It seems pretty obvious that Benson has a lot of trust in Loomis and Laucha and is basically telling them to take care of his latest acquisition.
Some in this thread seem to get upset at the idea of Loomis telling Demps how to do his job, but the other option would be to have senile old man Benson looking over Demps' shoulder.

Guess I should've counted when that guy posted it. My bad. Still my point is most Saints fans just want to see the evidence for suspensions this severe.

Maybe we're paranoid because of all the shite that has happened? How can you say were the most paranoid in sports and not attribute it to the fact, at least partially, we just got fricked, rightfully or wrongfully so doesn't make a difference.

Have you read any Vikings boards since the 2009 NFC Championship game? I'd say that they got us beat.
On topic, I think this is really little more than Loomis being Benson's eyes and ears into what the Hornets are doing.
