I want a season, but I don't blame the players at all if they decertify.
Not a winning strategy. Just makes some of them feel better. And they'll never win an antitrust suit. They're going to frick themselves over . . . and hurt the league for the next few years as well.

Nobody knows what will happen if they bring an antitrust suit and see it all the way through.

It's a two way street here. Players have been stubborn, owners have matched that every step of the way and then some.

Until they throw the season away I'm convinced it's all posturing. If you're the owners you want the players thinking Stern is barely holding the hardliners back. On the players side you want the owners thinking you aren't rational "they aren't crazy enough to kill the season are they?"

Depressing, but a great read from Matt Moore.

I’m not even angry anymore. I’m out of energy to be livid at the owners, frustrated with the players, disappointed in leadership. I’m just sorry for every parking lot attendant, concession worker, six-year old fan who would have seen his or her first game, every lifelong fan with season tickets, every writer looking forward to doing what they do best, every player whose career gets irreparably damaged, every community who gets a chunk of their economy removed, every blog writer and every fan, everywhere.

Just drifting and reading around the internet, as depressing as it seems on the surface, I still think there will be a deal sooner rather than later. Could be completely wrong, but that's my opinion.

This lockout might be hardest on the journalists, it's cost them their sense of humor. Nazr Mohammed tweeted that this deal is so bad if it's accepted college players would be better off staying in school and getting a degree. Lots of sports journalists are responding to him as if he was 100% serious

quote:
Mike Fisher: Exact Nazr tweet: If deal accptd I advise guys stay in school + get ur degree, Masters. U mite be able to make more $ that
Mike Fisher: Nazr, holy shite. How much do you think it COSTS to get a Masters? How much do you think we regular folk get paid for having them?
Yannis Koutroupis: I'm sorry but @Nazr Mohammed claim that players could make more money by staying in school is absurd. Take it from someone who is in school.
Kurt Helin: Nazr Mohammed was doing so well, too LINK #PBT #NBA
Jody Genessy: Um, OK.

There won't be any deal. You have 10 different factions within the NBPA fighting amongst themselves coupled with outside factors (Sports agents who will see a significant revenue decline) and Union leadership themselves fighting for their jobs. The owners have two factions they have to deal with (Mega-city owners vs Midsized/Small market owners) but they have Stern who knows how to control everyone.
The sports agents have teamed up with the mega-stars & aging NBA players to lockout the mid-level and low-level NBA players. None of those groups give a rats arse about the mid-level and younger players because quite frankly they don't care about them. The Union knows putting this thing to a vote would end the lockout but the anti-Union faction wants to decertify because they think they can steam roll the process in the courts through this ill-advised Anti-trust action which won't go anywhere.
Good news is the players are going to completely self-destruct when they reject this latest proposal. The animosity on the courts is going to be at an all time high between players when the players get totally railroaded and we should see some cheap shots & career ending moves by some of the players who got screwed against some of the NBA's star players. You can write that in ink.
I believe that if these idiots vote to decertify the union the first thing the Hornets need to do is get Chris Paul the hell out of New Orleans. There are going to be dozens of players looking to end his career if they reject this latest & last proposal. Bring in a new group from top to bottom that won't have the animosity baggage that a Chris Paul will bring if they vote down the proposal or decertify. He is injured enough already and his days on the court will all but be assured to be limited.
If the players accept the deal then keep Chris Paul and I think with a new owners who doesn't carry the baggage that all of the other owners have with respect to the new CBA--New Orleans is going to be in a dynamite place.
Also keep in mind we are going to have 2 years of NBA draft picks and European Free agents to pick up if they call the season. Bottom line we will see approxmiately 1/3 of the NBA players who played last year gone if the season starts in 2012-13.

Word is the union reps would have put the previous deal to a vote and it probably would have passed a player vote if Hunter hadn't talked them out of it. That says to me Hunter is still in control and thinks he can get more. Decertification means the end of the road for Hunter.

I don't know about that. Word is also that the majority of players don't really understand the deal offered, but when its been explained to them the reaction has been negative. Every guy on the executive board, save CP3, is a role player. They thought it was a good deal, they could get a vote.

after 5 years of having season tickets I'm to the point now to where I just want a refund on my 2010-11 tickets.

Thank you for participating. There is a fair deal on the table that will allow the season to start on December 15.

i agree that hunter is being selfish for individual-personal reasons and it's hurting the union

Chris Duhon tweeted that the Magic will accept the deal.
It looks like if it came to a straight up vote, many players would accept it. The Union does not want that to happen.
They will kick a revised deal back to the owners, apparently. We'll see if Stern puts his money where his mouth is and goes back to 47%, or if he negotiates further with the players.

I would be really surprised if Hunter survives this no matter what happens. Even if decertification was always too risky to try Hunter did a poor job of preparing the players for this. Players shouldn't have been coming up with exhibition tours on the fly, they should have had exhibition tours organized and ready to go once the lockout began. If Kim Kardashian can get $20 million for a fake wedding, I'm sure they could have made quite a bit pimping out the superstars to reality TV. LeBron and DWade's South Beach Adventures. Have a group of stars do a version of Dhani Takes on the World. Not to mention well crafted reality TV would have given the players a platform to do spin control against the league. They've gotten their asses kicked on the PR front.

the funniest part is the NFLPA already dropped that secret salary insurance bomb with enough time for the NBAPA to scrounge something together...and they did not

Woj is reporting that players who aren't team reps have been denied requests to get a full hard copy of the deal by the NBPA. lulz.
They do NOT want a vote.

It is becoming more and more obvious that the NBPA does not represent the rank and file. The players should be signing a petition to ouster Hunter and Fisher before they decertify.

I'm starting to think the league should just publish their proposal in full and watch the Union scramble. Not sure how legal that would be, but that sounds like bargaining in good faith to me. The NBPA is truly denying the players, that is the very definition of not bargaining in good faith.

The first thing the Hornets need to do is get rid of Chris Paul immediately. We are going to see NBA players make a move to end his career on the court when the NBA season starts back in 2012-13. The younger/mid-level players are going to be pissed because their interest wasn't represented in this process.
