Let's talk about Jaxson Hayes' 3

How real is this skill? He's not squared up, his feet aren't really set, yet it still looks pretty good with a high, quick release.

If Hayes can shoot 3s he is going to make himself a ton of money.

He’s 7’ and the ball looked like it peaked at about 11’ mid flight. Typically, not a very high probability of those going in consistently.

The game is really starting to slow down for him. Kid is gonna only get better

It's for real. Stroke looks good and he looked confident. It's still a developing shot. He's shown flashes from midrange and has taken a couple of 3s in his two seasons. Look at it this way, Hayes is way ahead of Ben Simmons right now. I hope next season they'll really work it into the offense with Zion. Hayes would be impossible to guard on the pick and roll/pop if he continues to develop his jumper.

Horrible stance, horrible shooting form, and low arc and yet..he still makes it. He wasn’t far off on his second one also. He will have that shot pretty consistently in his bag down the line.

He has a natural touch, moves his feet well and runs like a racehorse. He needs continued development with game aspects, ball handling and strength but like Zion I would not push too hard to place limitations on him. He seems to be bright and a quick learner.

He needs Vinson time. His form isn’t awful but it could use some tweaking, as others have said. And now is the age to do it for a player like him so new to the game that probably hasn’t developed any hardened muscle memory.
However, I like the confidence and by simply seeing where SVG is slowly placing Hayes on offense at times(getting him out on the perimeter not just as a passer but an outlet shooter in the corner), it’s clear they share the vision I have and that is incredibly encouraging. Hayes’ two biggest traits he needs to develop that he currently hasn’t shown much improvement in(defense has improved a lot already) in order to play next to Zion is: improved rebounding, the ability to hit jumpers.
This was encouraging for that second one.

He’s always had a pretty decent shooting form. It wouldn’t shock me at all if he could develop a jumper.

I think he has one. I've seen it a few times this year. If he can hit a baseline jumper or even that 15 footer by the box he and Zion can wreck house for a decade.
Hes the strer

I remember his first three. A shot clock buzzer beater in the corner. He was shocked and so hyped it went in.

Real enough that houston seemed to close out on him like he was a shooter the rest of the game which is pretty cool lol.
Also how many free throws has Jaxson made in a row? It feels like he’s made like 40 in a row, but I do miss a few plays here and there due to inconsistent streams.

I watched in live on tv, rather than the flip phone quality gif and 11’ was an exaggeration, but it was about as low as you can physically shoot a ball from there and it go in. His free throws have no arc either, which is probably from his low release. His shot is smooth but he’s got a lot he needs to work on with it.

But those low arcs seem to work for some people. For example, I've never understood how Kawhi can shoot 39% with his low arc, but he does.

That three was great but I was really surprised with his smooth finish after he blocked that 3 point shot. I am super impressed with him

It can, but there’s a reason why it’s not ideal. He’s shooting free throws well so it’s obviously not a issue there, but if you are talking about his future development and whether or not he will knock down 3’s at a high clip you would much rather see him make that adjustment along with actually getting set then shooting. It seems like the only time he takes a 3 is when it looks like he’s chucking it up. A good start would be developing a corner 3 where he’s set and can catch and shoot, then expand from there.
