Let's Talk about Frank Jackson

Since he came in injured and never played I don't think we really looked into him much, I only bothered to watch one highlight clip on draft night last year. It would be huge if he's able to make the rotation this year.
His highlights suggest he's pretty athletic, goes hard to the hole and can finish through contact in addition to being a good spot up shooter. He seems really well suited to this offense Here's his Draft Express Profile Strengths Video LINK
Strengths
- Powerful Athlete
- Downhill Slasher
- Shot Maker
Here are his weaknesses: LINK Unfortunately a lot of his lowlights look eerily similar to those of Pels guards, inexplicably lazy passes that miss or get picked off, or trying to do too much and dribbling into traffic and losing the ball.
- Point Guard Skills
- Wiggle/Shiftyness
- Versatility on D
He's similar in size to Moore, but I think the role his skill set fits is what we were getting out of Clark. Being an active secondary ball handler/cutter/spot up shooter on offense and any moments of competent defense you get is gravy. It will be hard to keep Clark if he gets offered more than the minimum by anyone else so it's probably good that Jackson seems suited to the role he played. Considering how inconsistent rookies tend to be and how inconsistent Clark was this year, that's what I'd look for out of Jackson next year, being another Ian Clark.

Tf man? ATL is just trying to start a conversation about a potentially promising young player and you’re being a smart arse for no reason?
Anyways, I really hope Rondo taught Frank some lessons this year. I remember hearing that if he were to stay a couple more seasons at Duke he really could have played into the lottery, so the talent is there, he’s just young.

People forget that he was a big time recruit coming out of high school (top 10).
He definitely got overshadowed at Duke by all that talent they had.
Always thought he was a bit undersized but the guy has some serious athletic ability.

I’m glad he stayed with the team throughout the injury. Always engaged on the bench. Hopefully he learned a lot by observing and talking to guys like rondo and jrue. Anything to reduce his learning curve next year

I always hoped he could take over once rondo is gone but their games are totally different. He’s more of a scoring combo guard. Rondo is a pure point guard.

We're clearly high on him, considering we traded up to draft a guy who we knew was going to miss a lot of time.
If he can be an 8 ppg, 4 apg off the bench, that'd be huge

the point guard's weakness is point guard skills?

Hes a 2 guard with point guard size.

He's next year's Ian Clark. Fully anticipate drafting a wing prospect in the 2nd to develop.
It's so law to our grasp, we're a 3&D sf away from competing...

I think there's small chances to find a solid role player in the first 10 or so picks of the 2nd round every year. there's usually always 1 almost starter type player that comes from the early 2nd, and maybe 2 more role players in those first 12 picks.
from picks 50 and beyond, there might be 1 guy that can even make a team picked every 3 years or so.
That pick we have at 51 is completely worthless and will be sold for cash.

Agreed, although I'd try and trade it before I cashed it out. Even you just swapped it for another playoff team's 2nd next year that gives you an additional future asset to work with in trades.

I would think they’d want the $ now for the tax bill
either way there will be no draft pick this year

Hopefully he can become an impact guy like the Raptors 2 backup guards or a Tyler Johnson

Nobody can really replace Rondo, unfortunately.

Looking at the 18-19 ROY IMHO FWIW

8 pt, 4 assists instead of Clark's 7.4 pts and 1.5 assists.
Meh.
Meh.

Jackson also exhibited rare athleticism and agility at last year's combine when he registered the fastest shuttle run of any player in attendance (2.7 seconds) and the second-highest max vertical leap (42 inches).
But Demps has been even more impressed by the way he's remained locked in mentally while being sidelined throughout the year.
"I thought our veteran guys did a phenomenal job walking those guys through this year," Demps said. "We were playing Game 5 (of the Western Conference semifinals) and I got to shootaround early, probably 30 minutes before, and Frank was there with (Rajon) Rondo. The smile on my face when I saw Frank Jackson there, who is injured, there with Rondo -- it just shows (Rondo)'s leadership and it showed Frank's eagerness."

He's listed as 10 pounds heavier than Moore but has elite agility and jumping ability? Maybe that means he's strong like Jrue? With that kind of athleticism hopefully he can be an adequate defender despite his lack of size.

We're talking about production from a minimum level player so of course it's meh. But being Ian Clark is step 1. Step 2 the following year would be to become E'Tuwan Moore. If there's a step 3 then you struck gold.
