Saw Nance in brief interview on “DSU.
Well spoken and sincere. Said “49 wins is no accident”. “We’re a good team and we’re not throwing in the towel.” I like the guy a lot, regardless of any limitations he may have.

That would be all fine and good if we had a legit 3rd big that Willie would play and Nance was making closer to the minimum than $10 million.

Despite the injury, it seems like Zion is turning a corner in terms of maturity and a lot of the younger guys seem to naturally have that dog mentality. The veteran training wheels aren't as needed as they used to be.

This.

Not saying you can't have older guys on the team, but it's not needed like it was 2-3 years ago.

and i like Larry as well, but he's not so important to this team that you don't trade him to get better. He's a salary and a rotational player, and if you can get a better rotational player using his salary, you do it. You don't need to hold onto him b/c of the off the court veteran stuff.

I don't think CJ will ever get the credit he deserves for righting the ship. If the Zion era ever amounts to anything, CJ will deserve much of the credit for making it happen. When he got here, Zion "allegedly" was in exile and his camp and the team were "allegedly" feuding. Those seem like distant memories now and that's mostly thanks to, not the player's coach who is all buddy buddy with the #2 that thinks he's a #1, but CJ.

Even though he deserves that credit and he is a very good fit after changing his game, I still think of the Big 3, he's probably the most likely to get traded in the next 18 months. And when that happens the team will be ok because there are players already on the roster ready to step up and shoot a bunch of 3s in his place.

To my eye, Nance had one of his best games for the Pels against the lakers. After Zion, he might have been our second best player on the night.

Like pretty much everyone on the team, I just wished we saw this with any type of consistency from Nance.

I hope the Pels pull this out against the Kings. Nance is not wrong here. This team is not terrible. It does lack toughness and an edge and those things can be developed with more playoff minutes.

??????????????

Nance was the sole reason for the 12-0 2nd Quarter run to wipe away the last lead we had in that game.

He gave up the most critical rebound needed in the 4th.

Nance playing starter minutes is the issue. Nance is a fine bench big and brings off the court intangibles. He's making below MLE, so not an albatross contract. It would be nice to replace Larry in a trade with someone like Okongwu or Mobley, but I am not sure Griff will pull the trigger on a big deal. Even though he should make a major change, I can see him kicking the can to the trade deadline.

If we don't make a trade of that nature, our options to upgrade the 5 will be pretty limited. I would love to see us go after Jalen Smith to pair with Larry. He's a younger guy who should be MLE or less. He's on the thin side, but rebounds really well and can space the floor. He also has rim protection skills even if he doesn't get as many blocks in Indy's scheme.

Another cheaper, high risk option would be to gamble and revisit trading for Rob Williams using the MLE exception. Pray for health and a return to form. This would require finding a decent 3rd big to eat some minutes like Biyombo or Drummond.

I love Larry. He’s a solid guy and a good basketball player. He’s being asked to do too much and that’s not his fault.

Probably was in a good mood because he had just gave Bron a blow job after the game.

This is like when we harped on Billy's great attitude last year.

It's just a proxy for scraping the bottom of the barrel to give a likable player credit when he is a net negative on the floor.

Larry probably wouldn’t get minutes on many other contending means. He is a good guy. But every game he misses a dunk, throws some odd off target pass, and never rebounds or even gets blocked shots. Yes Willie overuses him but rarely does Larry make good plays.

I think its genius by Billy and Larry. The whole great teamate and good guy thing basically gets them contract extensions and playing on time on a NBA team. Of course we’re the only NBA team that would do that as well.

We're not.

The Heat kept Haslem around like 8 years past his expiration date.

The Rockets roster Boban who just became a cult hero for giving Clippers fans free chicken by purposely missing two free throws.

There's many more examples. We're one of the few though that still treats Larry like he's anything other than an end-of-bench guy at this point in his career.

I mentioned giving them playing time. Im ok with keeping them around just not giving them substantial playing time.

Ok. So does 99% of this board. The whole point is to have a discussion. But I guess people get annoyed when an opposing view is discussed and its a so called “argument.” If people don’t like opposing viewpoints why come on a message board?

The sole reason for a 12-0 run. Thats impressive.

Nance went 10, 13, and 5 with a +7. Not a great line, but Nance is the back up center. BI, CJ, Trey, Jonas didn’t show up. Nance did. If nance played like that on a consistent basis he would be an easy piece to keep around for a few more years.

Gave up a key rebound in the 4th. Yea sometimes that Anthony Davis makes a play. AD is a first ballot hall of famer with about 4 inches on nance.
