Woj reporting Lakers closing in on Ariza with Phoenix wanting a playmaking guard and a draft asset as compensation.

WOJ

Really wish the Pels could get in on Ariza

Ariza going back to LA would disappoint me for some reason..

I don't think the Suns would want to take on Hill which makes trading for Ariza and matching salaries difficult. The Pels also don't have a play making guard to spare.

Would you do Solo, Frank, and two seconds for Ariza?

We really don't have the assets unless we want to give a first for a rental, and I am also shocked the Lakers are seemingly willing to part with Ball or Hart to bring in a guy that if he isn't traded would likely get bought out. Not to mention in a season everyone in the organization saw as the first leg of a two leg process to be completed the following offseason. A lot to give up.

It's a move I just don't get from the Lakers.

Do you think that beats the Lakers likely offer?

Absolutely, but I don't think the Suns take it because of Solo having another year. Phoenix is aggressive with FAs most offseasons, they got meetings with Aldridge and Blake, and their owner has a cheap reputation, the kind that would take short cuts for playoff money. I just don't see them wanting to trade future cap space right now, maybe closer to the deadline they'd consider it.

If it takes anything real to get Ariza, I am not a fan. He is not what I would be looking for. I need more playmaking and ball handling.

I do think Hill and our 1st could beat whatever LA is offering, though. I think most GMs think our pick would be between 10-16 and LA will be in the mid 20s

I also don't think they value cap space a ton next year. If they did, they wouldn't have taken on Ryno. I think they might make a trade in season next year or attack the FA market in 2020, but they know they aint getting anyone in 2019

I think you could do Hill and the 1st for him, but I wouldn't do it.

Agreed. I was ok with 2nds and Frank because you dumped Solo in the process. If they wanted a 1st I keep waiting for a better deal to come along.

Isn’t Ariza on a one year deal? Why the hell would anyone give up a decent player and a draft pick for half a year of him?

So they are asking for something like Moore and a 1st? That’s so ridiculous I would have to say I’ll counter with Okafor for Ariza and the suns second.

Because he's making $15 million so you could offer him a deal starting at $18. You'd have a pretty good shot at resigning him for that much. But that might be the biggest reason to not trade for Ariza, he can leverage you into a deal that'd be terrible as continues to age.

The rich get richer I suppose

They should take a look at trying to acquire some talent from Chicago. That team is a shite show right now.

Yeah, the proposal I agreed to earlier in the thread was basically a rental of Ariza and dumping Solo for the price of Frank and 2nds.

Ariza is getting a lot of love this year because of the Rockets collapse, but he has been terrible offensively this year.

33 years old and shooting 36%.

It's kind of hard to judge anyone who's playing in the black hole that is Phoenix though. Remember how God awful Elfrid was there last year?

Circumstances determine how successful the vast majority of players in this league will be.

Very good point LG45

There's a reason Ariza is having an abberation year and I don't think it's his age
