He would not want Randle part of the core.

Didn't he kind of change his mind before he left?

Doubt it.
What has changed about Randle?
He still doesn't play defence and will take shots away from Tatum if he is still here.

Look I don't mind either way.
16M per year then yes.
20M for one year as an expiring to gain assets, then yes.

Anymore than that then no.

Ok, I see. You think I might be some other person. Well, sorry to disappoint but I am not whoever this person is. I found this board after all the AD mess and thought it would be a cool place to talk Pels because literally nobody where I live knows anything about the Pels or even cares. Hope that clears that up.

And yes, I do want to keep Randle long term, assuming we don't get Zion. But we gotta get lower usage guys who can shoot to go with him, Tatum, and Jrue because those guys will eat up most of the shots. I don't really know our salary cap or how all that works, but I would want him back if its reasonable.

thats very similar to how I feel about Randle. He is maddening to me. one night he's unstoppable & making the right plays. Others, he gives up 30 to go with his 20 on top of making some low IQ plays.

but I come back to his versatility & strength to guard almost any big in the NBA, the fact that he is a 20/10 in the league at the old age of 24, that he's a passionate player/leader, & that he has maintained a solid 3-point stroke. he is a very talented player, but my question has been, how far will this team go to keep Randle?

Imo I would have him back for the right price. A large short term deal or something like 3/45. No more than 3 years. Other than that, I agree with you Aussie, I'm less inclined to keep him

Good takes and good conversation is always welcome. Opinions are just that, opinions.

I gave my opinion on Randle but didn't see what you said before I posted.

I'd be interested to here why you want to keep Randle long-term and what role you think best fits for him. I think Randle is a very good discussion

I think, at worst, Randle is an asset. I can't see him becoming like a Solomon Hill albatross, for example. In business and life, I usually start there, where I ask myself, "What's the worst way this can play out?" And even if we give Randle like 3/50, I just can't see him as untradable barring something drastic like tearing an Achilles or whatever.

So, my worst case scenario isn't that bad. And best case scenario is he just stays the same or gets a little better offensively while also improving his defense to where he is a small plus on that end. Like, imagine Zach Randolph in his prime but with more range and he moves his feet better on the perimeter on D. I'll take that!

Plus, it sounds like the guy actually wants to be here and make it a home. That is valuable. If him and Jrue both truly feel that way, then that will rub off on Tatum and the rookies and they will want to stay too. That's the best case scenario to me.

I agree that at the very least he won't be an Asik or Solo.

But my worry is fit with Jrue & Tatum long-term. Randle is a Tyreke-like scorer. He needs the ball in his hands. However thats very similar to how Jrue & Tatum play (more Jrue than Tatum). And to make your best 2 players most effective, they need space to work. So when I think who I want around Jrue & Tatum, it's a spacer like Niko. It's draft prospects like DeAndre Hunter or Darius Garland.

If you told me that we'd get Randle for $12 mil/yr and off the bench, count me in. but while I see a lot of positives in Randle & his game, I question the fit with Jrue & Tatum

Would be nice if we had a good coach to develop young players.

Great teams stagger their scorers. It's not like those 3 will be on together more than 16-20 mpg. And when they are on together, I do think you need two low usage guys. I also think injuries will happen so it will be nice to have scorers when that happens. Building the perfect team when healthy is nice and app, but injuries will happen and when it does, you will need those high usage guys to pick up even more slack like GE does when KD or Steph goes down for 10-15 games

Crewz you were always very big on pointing out players who perform well on a bad team and is this how they will perform on a good team.

Just come back as your real self man. We need ya

That is also a great point betonit .

Seems as though randle wants to be here and you can't put a price on that.
Him and jrue taking the challenge and add Tatum and brown to that mix.

Anyone going to point out how it's looking like Kyrie is going to bolt in the offseason, which likely makes Ainge pull out of the AD trade.

I'm thinking it's going be to the NY Knicks for their draft pick and a few decent young players they have.

Brooklyn Nets could be a wildcard if Celtics and Knicks balk for whatever reason. LeVert has legit star potential, would be awesome next to Jrue, and Jarrett Allen is the rim-protector we'll need, and he's young with lots of potential.

They blew out the Warriors in Oakland last night behind Gordon Hayward finding his game. Not only is that the kind of confidence building win that can push a team higher, but if Hayward is rounding back into shape that completely changes how attractive Boston is to Kyrie, especially if AD is getting added to the mix.

Why not? The current build included having 3 $30 million players next year. AD just steps into Horford's salary slot long term. We've even seen speculation that Boston wants to add both KD and AD. Surely they'd pay the big tax bill if it got them a new super team.

I would still try to make a play for Sato. He fits with some defensive versatility, a good shooter, and can initiate an up tempo offense well.
