I'm not a huge fan of Gentry, but if he is let go i wish people would stop pushing John Calipari.
Calipari is a very good recruiter but average as a coach. He won and won big as long as he had 3 to 4 1st round picks on his roster every year.
This year his talent is down a lil bit and i say a lil bit because he still has pretty good talent, but he is getting his arse handed to him this year. I don't see him being a good pro coach.

Or alternatively you could say what a small market team like the Pels needs is a coach/POBO that can recruit/attract talent to the team a la Pat Riley and Jerry West. Who better than the guy who's coached half the damn players in the league and is beloved by many of those he didn't coach?

Not to mention he probably helps you hold on to the two stars you do have. Not saying he's the perfect coach, but there's definitely another way of looking at it.

It amazes me how many people play the ‘’I told you so’’ game with the Gentry hire because he’s a career .500 coach ...yet they are clamoring for Calipari, whose NBA record is 72–112 .

Pete Carroll succeeded in the NFL after a previously bad experience. Why can't John do the same in the NBA?

You're legit retarded if you want Calipari. He's a horrible add coach in college. Good recruiter though. He's already had a trashy trash NBA career, but he will somehow miraculously turn around the Pels? I laugh at the idiots who have faith in this guy.

Hypothetically, if the Pels sign Cal, I could see John Wall being a very possible addition. He and the Wizards are having some issues.

any idea what you will offer them?

I doubt that they will bite

If they are dumb they will bite on
Jrue and first rounder
for Wall and Smith
(doubt it)

I have seen this coming for years. Ever since Davis has come here, there has been this undercurrent of Kentucky fans that root the Pelicans. In their zeal, they want to turn us into the professional Kentucky team. Gather all their players in one place and prove that their program is the best. I get it and understand it. I just don't ever want it to happen. I especially don't want Calipari to come here.

John Calipari is the most overrated coach in college basketball. He currently has about 8 guys that will play in the NBA, 4 of which are lock 1st rounders this year and he is going to end up in the NIT. The guy has an 81% winning percentage, but he has been the favorite over 90% of the time. There is nothing about his system, overwhelming size, speed and talent, that will translate to the NBA. Having lots of players in the NBA is great, except most aren't very good and none of them are alphas/winners..

A core of AD/Boogie/Wall is worth paying the tax, no?

It's a shame the league wouldn't let the Pels broadcast out of market. They could probably sell the rights to the Pels to FoxSports Kentucky for more than they sell them to FoxSports NOLA.

In 2 years that’s like a $110M+ Big 3. Unless every other player is a minimum or rookie scale, that would be a massive, massive tax bill. Paying the tax is one thing, being one of if not the most expensive team in NBA history would be another.

The reality is that he’ll never be hired to coach the Pelicans. So, there’s that.

I know something about probabilities and the feelings of a few guys in the Saints/Pelicans administration.
