Is getting Brogdon realistic ?

He looked fantastic last night. No way he stays in Milwaukee with the Bucks having paid Bledsoe.
What contract moves would the Pelicans have to make to get him?

June 30th at 6:01, you call his agent with an offer of 4/84, with declining structure so it starts at around 24 million next year.
No way Bucks can match that. They know it, you know it. You call Bucks and say, "Instead of losing him for nothing, why not take a knock down shooter in E'Twaun and also get a 15 million dollar trade exception"
They say yes, we have Brogdon. Done.

You said 4/75 million the other day..do you think they need to offer him another 9 million? I don't know if I want him for 21 million a year
If we going to offer 20 to 25 million a year for a point guard I would rather them to get kemba first

Is paying Brogdon that contract good value? I don’t think It would be.
Would focus on getting good value contracts with the possibility in mind of flipping for a higher quality player and better fit if the chance was made available in the future.
Signing contracts that are not value assets limits future possibilities.

IMO, its fine to overpay ONE core piece over the next 4 years, because you will be underpaying Zion.
Think of it more like this -- Would you pay Brogdon and Zion 32-35 mil per year for the next 4 years? Of course.
It's the cost of getting a RFA. Maybe you can get him for less, but it is gonna cost somewhere in the 18-22 mil range per year. And I know its not exciting because he's not a name. But his fit is fantastic

I'm nit-picking, but $24 mil is too high. If he stayed in MIL, he'd backup Bledsoe who is making $15 mil. Plus the Bucks will pay Middleton, and maybe Lopez and/or Niko.
Maybe I'm missing something, but imo 4/72 will be way out of MIL's budget

Brogdon is legit. I loved his game at UVA and looks like he is continuing it in the pros. He rately seems rattled.

If we trade moore and replace him with a 1-3 mil guy, that would translate to a Brogdon trade costing us about 18 mil a year taking out Moore's 2 year 16mil. Id say it is worth the move easily at that point. It is hard to want to give out a 20+ mil contract if AD stays and we still have Both Moore and Hill under contract. I will say that Randle, Hill, and Moore will cost us about 30 mil on the cap next year. If we can somehow flip that for Brogdon and Mirotic at about 33-34 mil it would be glorious.

Yeah I like Brogden too. Him and Jrue on the perimeter would be extremly tough on defense.

4/72 and why not just match and trade him down the line?
If you go over that and start high while guys like Snell are still on their books, that would be an insane lux tax bill that wouldn't make it worth it. And yes, it starts at 24 for us but decreases as Zion increases and means those two are combining to make about 34 mil per year, which isn't bad at all.
It all comes down to how much you believe in him as a player and as a fit. My belief is high

I see your point & I'm not saying you're wrong. I just think they (MIL) won't have any money after Middleton and I can see Brogdon getting below market value based upon how many FAs will be looking for their money this summer.
I say all the above because I have become "large-contract averse" after all the poor contracts we've given out over the years (Asik, Solo, Ajinca, etc). So my nit-picking on numbers comes from trying to reduce risk. But also I realize you won't find many deals on the restricted FA market and that you run a risk on MIL matching.

You mistake me. I love Brogdon’s fit. He’s one of my favorite targets this offseason. 4/84 is a bit of a shocking number, but I would love the idea of a descending contract.
I was hoping for closer to 4/75 and a descending.

the time to strike against MIL is while snell is still on their books.
you know they are going to do anything to move him, and if they can they can keep everyone
Brogdon would be a fantastic fit here and an overlay for a guy with decent size who can shoot is a no brainer to me. He doesn’t seem to have any bad/lazy habits either.
other guys I really like are house in HOU and Anderson in ATL

An overpay and S&T of young vet RFA is a move straight out of the Dell Demps playbook. I’m not saying it’s a bad move, it’s just Demps stood out enough in him being one of the few people using this move that someone wrote a song about it. Is it a move Griffin would naturally choose to make?

Problem is that we have to do things in a way that makes Milwaukee balk rather than match.
If we take a more reasonable approach, we may / will lose out on him.

Doesn’t doing something like blowing our nut on MB largely depend on AD trade return?
Posted on 5/18/19 at 10:29 am to teke184
MIL has bird rights on mirotic but not on Lopez.
unless Lopez turns down big money to stay (he’s made a LOT of money in his career) they can’t keep him. Niko doesn’t do enough to warrant a huge deal. I love the guy but his impact is diluted on a team like that.
They will keep Middleton no question but then must choose unless they can move snell with picks which won’t be easy

If you can get him for around 15 million a year I think he's worth it. If not I would rather go get a guy like Beverly for 8 to 10 mil a year or kemba for 20+ mil a year. I don't think brogdon moves the needle enough to warrant 20+ mil a year

And it worked pretty nice with Ryan Anderson.
There is no poor move in a vacuum. If you Target the right guys, any type of move looks genius. Target the wrong guy and it looks stupid.
I don't think there is such thing as overpaying good players hurting your team. Would you rather pay a guy 16 instead of 21? Sure. But those are NEVER the reasons a team fails. They fail because they pay bad players 11 instead of 2. Stay away from THAT
