Your max contract guys need to be capable of being one of the best three players on a contender. Ingram has turned into a below average defender and doesn’t create offense for others. He gets some buckets, but not enough to warrant his max deal. Not sure Pels can ever win with him.

He just needs a lead guard who can command an offense and keep him from trying to do too much.

This right here. BI and Zion would benefit so much. They’re elite finishers and we have them getting hurt and worn out trying to organize the offense.

Rubio plus Buddy in the off-season would be an interesting target(especially if Rubio’s improved shooting from three is real).

You’d again be without defense, but the firepower and offensive generation would be elite

I would hate to see you run a franchise.

Let’s be honest. Probably 99% of posters on this board would have us at better than 2-15 right now and the extra added effect of Zion hating the organization.

Most of us are retards, but you literally have to try to be as bad as Griffin has been the last 3 years and you still might not achieve the same level of ineptitude.

James had Ingram for one year as his number 2 and knew he couldn't win with him. He missed the playoffs and gutted the team. He ended up winning a ring the next year. Yet we expect Ingram to be so much more. James knew he couldn't count on him to be his running mate. Why do we think he can do that for Zion, when he couldn't do it for James?

He is for sure a max player. Other teams would easily give him a max deal if the pelicans didn’t.
There are a lot of max players in the nba.
Some are WAY better value than others. He isn’t an outlier
Other Max contract players:
Andrew Wiggins
Michael porter jr
Ben Simmons
Tobias harris
Blake griffin
Deagelo Russel
KAT
Kristaps porzingus
Kevin love
Gordon Hayward
Etc…

Would have been stupid for Pels fans to hope the Brandon ingram improve after he left the lakers as he gained more experience.

No, he thought he could win now with AD and had to give up BI to get him. Got James another ring. Ingram being asked to do too much because we have no hint of any lead guard play.

For a max player, he's not able to put the team on his back and lead us to a win. Too many empty buckets when the game has been decided. I like Ingram, but your max player needs to perform at a higher level.

Hmmmm that would be interesting. Having a real PG in Rubio would be awesome. He did look much improved in the Olympics this year shooting. Would love his veteran presence too.

Dude he’s definitely a max player.

The team just needs to chill out down the stretch and play the same basketball they play in the first half. It’s a mental block for Ingram and nobody else on the team has enough talent to be that guy.

We win with team basketball. Same way the Spurs can win with all these random dudes over the years. Somehow Willie’s gotta fix us. We crumble under pressure. In that Wizards game, the crowd started going nuts around 6 mins left and the team panicked. We have zero poise. Somebody has to relax the troops.

I think that either comes from having a veteran PG who can keep everybody under control or it can come from generational talent (like Zion).

It’s just so confusing why Ingram can be so good and then bend over in the clutch. He right now is our best player, and at the end of games, the team feeds off his nervous energy.

I like Ingram but I have to say watching Jimmy Butler carry his short-handed team to victory with 31-10-10 made for an interesting comparison in star power…

Not really. Jimmy is 32, BI is 23. Butler wasn't even a starter at 23.

Ingram is definitely a max player on that contract.

Will he be a guy worth 40 mil? No.

Jimmy was sophomore at 23, with a coach which doesn't usually give many minutes (Thibodeau).

BI has already 6 years in NBA...

They weren't good fully healthy. If James thought Ingram was a star or max player, he would have never moved him. He would have just waited for David to bolt.

It reality, Ingram is a 3rd to 4th option on a contending team. He wasn't even really 2nd to James on that team. It was Kuzma. If Kuzma comes here instead and plays next to Zion, he is putting up the same level of numbers and we are all wondering if he is really a "max" player.

Let the down votes rain. The truth hurts..

Kristaps porzingus regret
Kevin love big regret
Gordon Hayward not a max, sill gonna regret

Wow
You made such a good point here.

BI deserves the near max moneyvwithout a doubt, but that doesn’t mean he should be the best or even the 2nd best player on a championship contending team. He can without a doubt be a 2a 2b player with Zion as the lead #1. BI has to get some help on the perimeter. That’s his problem. He’s asked to do to much.
