I can’t imagine their game plan is for him to not grab rebounds and run sometimes lol. If it is, then coaching staff needs to go today

I would have to see specifics on these defenses because I can assure you zions defense is not contributing to such a decrease in 3pt percentage lol

Zion’s offense feeds his defense, when he’s on the court without Ingram he’s the focal point of the offense which would make sense as to why he’s better defensively.

Superstars (or superstar talents) want to be the focal point of the team, and they don’t want to defer to lesser players, which is why you see so many of them slack off when they’re forced into roles they know they’re nit suited for.

This team basically turning a guy who has Shaq like abilities into saying hey why don’t you play off-ball, small 5 role to us where your BI sidekick and we’ll win more games. Honestly, Zion seeing through that BS and part of his frustration is leading him not giving a frick in defense or rebounding.

And he could easily average 10, I’ve seen this play far too many times for anyone to tell me he couldn’t.

There have been multiple clips posted from last night where Zion easily could have had even more rebounds if he wasn't just standing around with his thumb up his arse on defense. Here's a 2fer that shows BI and Zion "working" together to not out rebound Grant Williams.

This is off a made basket by the Pelicans.

Brandon Ingram runs past Grant Williams. Zion Williamson stands next to Grant Williams while Grant Williams goes and gets the offensive rebound.

There is just no defending this

What?

Zion is 11th on this team in DRB%. Take out JRE and Liddell with low minutes, and he's 9th.

Zion ranks 130th in the NBA in DRB%, just behind CJ McCollum and behind guys like Kyle Lowry and Chris Paul.

He goes hard after rebounds on his own misses, that's really it. Defensive rebounding, he's awful.

Yep, he only cares when he has a chance to score. He's just not trying on defense.

It's year 5 and we're still begging this guy to give a shite

He has the highest usage on the team by far. And 16th in the league. He just needs to get his shite together and produce like a superstar.

I would have to look at the numbers more closely but reading these numbers don't surprise me. Zion and BI have played more together than ever before this season. Since it is not working, their net ratings have suffered. It also means that Zion has not been on the court with shooting much this season. Our best lineup has been the Hawk/Ryan/Herb/CJ/Jonas lineup. That lineup has shooting and moves the ball. The team's net rating being better with both out is from that lineup and from the fourth qtr last night.

I still think that much of the issues with this team are coaching and fitting round pegs into square holes. Last night is a perfect example. Think back to the third qtr, Zion assisted Jonas on two quick touches which led to a dunk and a corner 3. Then, he and Jonas both go multiple possessions without a touch. Zion was taken out with nearly six minutes left in the third and Jonas was right around that time. Neither came back in during the third qtr. Unfortunately, we aren't going to see guys hustling when they feel frustrated on the other end. The coaching staff needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with each other and the players and get this fixed.

The plan coming into the season was awful. Moving your best player off the ball and having him sit in the corner because "when he isn't out there our offense can't fall apart so we just won't use him as much" is one of the most predictable failures I have seen in the NBA.

I’ve never said he can’t be better, I’ve even said he hasn’t been good this year, but I’ve also said when he turns it on like he did in Denver you see it.

I get everyone saying “oh he should be doing this and that” but the coaching staff and front office is not putting him in a position where he will want to shoulder that load.

It’s no different than you being at your job and you have all the abilities in the world and have shown people that you are one of the best to do what you do and are clearly the best person in your office, but the people in corporate pass you over and promote the guy thats 70% the employee you are above you, it’s damn sure going to make you not try as hard as you can.

Anyone could see Ingram playing for his next contract coming into the season. He's playing to protext his stats first and foremost. Expecting to take a backseat and hurting his stats was always unrealistic. BI said it last year when he came back from injury post all star break. He wasn't going to change his game for anyone. We knew that.

BI and Zion always talk about them playing off of each other but when things get tough, they revert back to what's comfortable.

Hell, just before the season started I was laughing at one of the dudes from Pro Pels Talk because he said BI would easily average 10 assists per game in that point guard role this season.

Zion said he had a "massive cut" on his right thumb during the second half. Didn't want to use it as an excuse. Will be interesting to see how much it'll be wrapped up on Wednesday.

Might not be related, but Zion had zero turnovers in the 2 games before this tweet, and 11 in the 2 games since. I wonder if this is affecting his handle.

This could be explaining Zion’s sudden turnover proneness. Forgot this even happened

Maybe he could average 20? 7 rebounds a game for a 6'6" forward who exerts a lot of energy on the offensive end is not bad. You can always find an example of any good player not going full go after a rebound. If he were averaging 3-4, I would worry.
