I’m curious if this is a Zion issue or a culture issue?

Are our coaches/training staff not strong enough to convince Zion to play through a little discomfort, or are they telling him to sit? It’s not just Zion we’ve seen it for years with AD, BI, Zion, the list goes on and on. Our star players generally do not play through discomfort and always take the “safe” route of sitting out until they “feel right”. We’ve even seen it with quotes like Zions infamous quote that he’ll play when he “feels like Zion”.
My question is simply whether we have a culture problem where we encourage our guys not to play, or a culture problem where our staff and team chemistry is too weak and guys aren’t willing to “risk it” if they aren’t 100% because the team isn’t a priority.
Either way it’s not good

its the world we live in today. Every little bo bo has to be examined and if there are any signs of discomfort, then don't play.
Today we tell every athlete to sit if they are hurt.
20+ years ago we told them to suck it the frick up.
As someone who grew up in the suck it the frick time period, while I want people to suck it up more, there is a fine line between playing through pain that isn't detrimental to the injury, and prolonging or worsening the injury by playing through it. Just feels like in todays world we don't even entertain the though of playing through pain usually. it's just automatically you should sit out and come back when your 100%.

I agree with a lot of this and I know he’s not the only superstar that misses games. It just seems like our culture is one of being soft even more than most

Its a catch 22. If an athlete has soreness that a hardnosed coach makes him play through, and he tears a muscle, who's fault is it?

It's the Tom thibodaux theory all over again.
You want a coach like him, but players shelf lives shorten because of it.

In a league run by players seems the pels are considered door mats from what I can see.

Culture. Once Zion forces his way out he’ll suddenly find maturity and drive.
