For the sake of argument/discussion let's assume the Pelicans somehow land the #1 overall pick in the lottery next week. Follow that up with AD deciding that he wants to stay here long term and pair with Zion and Jrue. How would you build the roster off of that? What specific skillsets and players do you go after?

I'm borrowing from Crewz when I say you need guys that can create for AD and Zion plus handle, defend, and most importantly shoot. Shooting is key in this.

That being said I'd make the following moves:

Trade Solo + Moore + Jackson to the Hornets for Nicolas Batum. Batum isn't the player he wants was and his shooting numbers have declined and his contract is awful, but I don't see us being able to competitively go after a top flight wing otherwise. Hornets could do this if we throw in a 2nd rounder or 2. Gives them a young player in Jackson and expiring contracts in Solo + Moore to help with their rebuild since they are most likely going to lose Kemba

Re-sign Elfrid Payton - 2 year deal with raise

Sign Quinn Cook - 1 year deal
Sign Shelvin Mack

Exercise Options on Jahlil Okafor, Christian Wood, and Kenrich Williams

Draft Dylan Windler in the second round

Sign Dragan Bender to vet min
Sign Seth Curry - 2yr $10m
Sign Wilson Chandler to vet min
Sign Troy Daniels to vet min

Roster becomes

Payton / Cook / Mack
Holiday / Curry / Daniels
Batum / Chandler / Windler
Williamson / Bender / Williams
Davis / Okafor / Wood

Have shooters all around...you give up some D on that second unit but if you can get ahead with the first one they don't need to be as good defensively.

Cook and Curry both know the system would thrive in it. Williams surely has fallen off but I love his grit and IQ. Could bench player and glue guy down the road I think.

To be honest, I'm first making a call to someone like the Raptors to see if I can get Kawhi on a S&T for #1.

If the Pels land #1 and AD decides he wants to stay, we should laugh at him and send him to the first team that comes calling

Imagine how sad Dell Demps will be if the Pels get the No. 1 overall pick and he's not here to trade it away.

I hate to keep beating up on you but I feel like you are so much smarter than your posts and I have no clue why you type what you do.

First of all, the player has the choice in a sign and trade. It's Kawhi's decision, not the Raptors, to come to the Pelicans. And if Kawhi wants to come to the Pelicans, then you just clear your books and sign him. You would never give up an A asset to trade for a guy you can just sign. And I am assuming you think Kawhi gets a lot more money in a S&T, so that is why he would do this as opposed to just signing here, but that would be wrong as well with the new CBA.

That was just an awful, awful post. No offense intended, of course.

You really just need to lower your expectations of bunchie. It helps with dealing with him.

Thanks for the somewhat backhanded compliment.

First question: Do you really think I believe a lot of the things I post? Hint: I am a liar by trade and argumentative, so often I will post things I don't even believe. Its not trolling, per se, but I do like to take sides that aren't popular sometimes. And I especially like to annoy people with short answers or overly emotional answers. There's a patrol on this board that gets bent out of shape by that and it cracks me up to no end.

NO WAY

Read my post again. I would call the Raptors. I would get the dialogue started. I had intended to post "And if Kawhi has no interest in signing with the Raptors see if he is willing to come here", but a client walked in. I assumed people would be smart enough to know that I know the player has all the leverage in a S&T, but I guess not.

I am aware that S&Ts are not as valuable as they used to be, but to get Kawhi here both us and the Raptors would have to exert some pressure, and I imagine other teams will be gauging Kawhi's availability as well via S&T if that market opens up.

Nah, not really. If AD is coming back and you have the #1 pick, you obviously explore the superstar market via trade. I think that is a no-brainer. But it would have to be a Kawhi level guy to even consider it.

And to answer the OP question, if your primary guys are Jrue/AD/Zion...

You have to pursue shooters shooters shooters. Spacing will be an absolute must with those guys.

Ballhandler to take the ball out of Jrue's hands.

3 point shooter at the Wing.

IThere's a 0.0% chance Kawhi comes to New Orleans, so I'm not sure that is really worth discussing.

Agreed

Everything is worth discussing which is why you discuss it first. If you have even a remote chance of pairing Jrue/Kawhi/AD you make the call. That was my only point.

Nah. I've just been taking a lot of counter opinions on here because this place has been an echo chamber lately.

These will be some looooooong threads if we are going to discuss every single scenario, including ones that have no chance of coming to fruition.

Not just that, but my post there was also poking fun at you going off on Crewz the other day, the same thing that you've called me out for on here only about a dozen times.

You're really going to try and argue your way out of that one?

C'mon man, quit playing.

Also, now you're just lying with the "in every thread" line. This is just a bad look for you lately.
