. . . who are some realistic possibilities for a new coach? I'm curious about any ideas that you guys may have.

Informative.

I am interested in opinions on a replacement.

Fizdale is definitely an option. Is George Karl still available? Guess that would not happen with Boogie tho.

Give JVG another interview?

Let Finch take the reigns? Dude seems pretty capable.

What's Monty up to these days?

If Gentry is fired, then Dell is fired and I'd put Cal on top of the list. He begged for it last time. Dell blocked.

I'm not completely sold on Cal, but I wouldn't be too upset if he got the shot.

I know when the Rockets were looking for a coach after they fired McHale, they had two profiles they were looking at. Experienced veteran coach or young Brad Stevens type.

Experienced coach they had D’Antoni in mind (who they ultimately chose), and for a young up and coming coach they were looking hard at Stephen Silas.

If you trust the decision making of Daryl Morey and his staff, then Stephen Silas might be worth a look as far as guys I haven’t seen mentioned.

Most would be excited and then a Fire Cal thread would appear after game 6. Then again after game 24, then again....

Fans are so simple minded and predictable. History will just repeat itself with most failing to realize it is the organization that is rotten

Are you arguing that fans don't have a good argument for wanting Gentry fired? Or are you just going to use 2 random people's comments and use that to speak for an entire population like we're all linked up dumbasses and you are our one saving grace?

I am saying every fan base for every fan base thinks the answer is firing the coach. It's the easiest thing to change, so its the thing you want to believe is the answer. Sometimes it is. Far more often than not, it isn't.

Usually the organization is rotten and/or the players are equally or even mores responsible.

Gentry isn't good. But unless you get Pop or Stevens or someone like that, it's not gonna make much of a difference. But you want to believe it will.

Fans aren't necessarily stupid. Not all of them. They are just biased, emotional, and hopeful. This clouds logic.

even with those guys and this roster, i doubt it makes that much of a difference. because

Pop and Buford are the best at finding players with skills they can highlight/maximize within their team/system. Stevens and Ainge are getting to that level.

meanwhile, many Pels fans think that Demps gave Monty a roster better suited for Gentry and Gentry a roster better suited for Monty. and there are a few reasons Cousins came at such a low price- one of them is that many teams want no part of him.

I had this debate with someone before the season. I told them that coaching, especially in the NBA is way overvalued. I listen to a show from Houston called the Blitz where they do a weekly talk with RJ Bell. He was talking about a ranking system that they have for coaches and they assign value based on +/- victory totals for each coach. The highest, at that time, was Kerr and his value was put at +6. Which would mean he would only add 6 wins a season.

For those that think coaching really is that critical. All you have to do is look at Rick Carlisle. Carlisle is one of the most brilliant basketball minds and is a tremendous coach. But his team is one of the worst in the leagues. You need talent to win and it has to fit together.

And the players have to be mature/hold themselves accountable. The craziest thing I read all the time is that the coach didn't motivate them for the game. This is their career! They get paid millions. If another man has to motivate you, you is a biatch

Pop has specifically said in the past that he doesn't motivate players because if they need that, that's not the kind of player they'd add to the team in the first place. For everyone thinking Gentry should manage Cousins better, Pop would probably bench Cousins and eventually trade Cousins rather than fix Cousins.

Yep, Billy Donovan is going to be the sacrificial lamb for the egos of Russ, PG, and Melo. This does not just come from fans though. I have heard active and former players stating that Donovan has not been assertive enough with the stars (despite Fizdale's recent firing) and that OKC's dysfunctional play is all his fault.
