I think everyone is fully aware that the organization sucks. Benson is old and checked out, Loomis shouldn't have anything to do with basketball, and both Dell and Gentry are bums.

Its not like we can do anything about it. We are still going to be fans.

So fans want the Coach and GM fired because that's what CAN happen.

Oh, I know. You can only hope for the change that is possible

My function is to keep you guys realistic though. And to let you know that even if all your wildest hopes and dreams come true, you will still end up miserable as a fan of this franchise ;)

I think most of us just want the team to be somewhat relevant. We know the Pels aren’t ever going to be a title contender. We want a playoff team.

This has been the most enjoyable season since 14/15. That’s sad.

I would love what Memphis was the past 6 years or so. But I think that's the ceiling, not the most likely or the floor

What are the characteristics of quality ownership? In no way would I argue the Pels front office has done a great job, but what could they do better, specifically?

It's a classic case of winning heals everything. Outside of the rare case of the Spurs/Popovich Pats/Belicheck, it seems random and to take a good bit of luck.

For example, the Warriors front office is lauded as being one of the best in sports, why? Because a kid with bum ankles who no one wanted magically turned into the best shooter of all time for 2 years? Or they drafted an undersized big-man who turned into an all-star? Sure, evaluating talent so effeciently doesn't seem like luck but to some degree it's at least good fortune.

Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. The Pelicans, while the results have suffered, have built solid facilities, brought in star talent, and thought they were doing something right when they integrated the franchises.

There's plenty to criticize when it comes to the Pels. Bad contracts, training staff, and losing in spite of talent. I just fail to see the tangible characteristics that set apart successful franchises from failing ones.

I think one of the biggest rules would be not to rush processes, don't just look for the path of least resistance, and don't try and cut corners.

Which IMO was the original sins of the Benson era.

Ownership took over and instead of doing a through vetting and audit of the organization(which by all accounts still has not happened) to identify its strengths and weaknesses, find out if Demps and Monty were the guys best suited for the long-term vision of the organization, they just changed the names on the ownership signs, told Demps to try and speed up the rebuild by trying to fast track our way to contention by clearing out our assets to chase a shortened time schedule for team competitiveness and profitability(basically applying NFL rebuilding logic to the NBA sport). When it hit a snag, reach for the easiest lever to pull and fire the coach.
