Your coming in a little late on this! But to answer the question the hornets are trying to find a name that ties in more to the NOLA culture an example would be the Jazz which is currently taken.

I heard everyone wanted New Orleans Spirit so we could be the most progressive franchise in the league by taking on a WNBA-esque name. I think that speaks a lot for the city's very accepting and unique nature. It's real popular around here. You should start spreading the word.

Let's get really Louisiana. I'm going with either the New Orleans Syphilis Champions with Britney Spears as the mascot or the Louisiana Bad Education But Recession Safe Economies. Those are working titles.

I still advocate a three-way name swap. New Orleans gets back the Jazz. They only listen to Christie Lane and shite like that in Salt Lake anyway, so "Jazz" doesn't really fit. They do have Bobcats in Utah though, so they get the "Bobcats" and "Hornets" goes back to Charlotte, which is in the "Hornet's Nest". Everyone is happy!
