All he'd have to do to use it though is post a few articles.
He should troll the frick out of Joe and post nothing but articles about actual pelicans.

these idiots probably bought Angels247 and Spirit247 when they were convinced they were going to be the names
Easy to check. Of course, they were not purchased by the idiots or anyone else with the site.
I'm not sure why you focus on a story you claim is false when there has been very good work put on this and other topics that you fail to discuss with the same ardor. The bad work should be pointed out so the output improves going forward, agreed. Sometimes, this seems beyond that.

I'd love to see that unfold. Seriously.

J-Smoove ?@notjasonsmith
@GerrityJoe feel your pain on domain name. Imagine my pain when I learned milfhuntercom was taken and had to settle for pelicans247com
Enjoy the Smooveness. May he heal quickly.

I've always wondered, what kind of dayjobs do you guys have and how much time do you put into the site?

Almost everyone is a regular "Joe."
They are teachers, computer nerds, office guys.
Me, I do some teaching at Tulane (math), and I work in spaceflight . . . I work for NASA by way of a contractor on Orion, SLS, and was on Shuttle before that. I do some work for other satellites, etc. here and there. Most of my work was on Shuttle, ET in particular, the external tank, not the phone home guy. It was a (justifiably) glorified aluminum can about 0.1" think in many place covered in about an inch of foam (hard foam, like inside of a plastic ice chest, but goosed up). I worked on the "Return to Flight" post-Columbia, as the foam was implicated (rightly) in the accident. I looked at foam data, analyzed it, and went from there.
I also do some novel work in friction stir welding, specifically of aluminums, mostly self-reacting but am branching out.
On the academic side, I used to work in string theory (math side), and now and am phylogenetics. On the applied side, the tools I develop have application in forensics and the study of diseases that involve mutation, like a virus (e.g. HIV) or cancer.
In my spare time, I put 10h-20h a week into Hornets writing, research, getting guests for the site, and handling back-end stuff (server nerd stuff, pondering domain names, making sure games etc. are covered, keeping the weeklies as on schedule as possible).
The academic stuff and hornets stuff is all unpaid.
That, the wife, the dogs, the Saints, is about it.

I personally would go with a completely different name than .net I guess for a blog it may not matter much, but you really don't want someone squatting on the .com version of your brand.
FleurtyGirl doesn't own her ".com" and she does well.
