I believe with Benson's ownership, they are to intertwined with the Saints to leave, as long as he or Gayle are the owners. Also, seeing that he ain't hurting for money like Shinn was and bought them for the specific purpose of saving basketball in New Orleans, I wouldn't plan on them leaving anytime soon.

So you learn that there is a contractual clause that prohibits them from moving for at least 8 more years and then you guess 5?

its more than a possibility. Most likely argued more a probability long term speaking.

maybe maybe not. This board is a sensitive bunch, maybe most sensitive of all boards on here.

there's a legitimate discussion to be had here. What's our attendance ranking this year comparative to league? Past 5-8 years?

We have had AD on a platter for us and are still struggling.

Hate to feed a troll, but what is different than most of the last 12 years other than a more stable ownership?

You're assuming the NBA, team revenues and team mobility are the same as they were a few years ago. That is not the case. Plus ownership with the Pelicans is now stable financially sound.

Depends. Raw totals 21st, as a percentage of capacity 13th. LINK Last year they were 24th and 13th.

Legitimate discussion, but only to dispel illegitimate concerns.

1) There is more revenue sharing than there was when Benson bought the team, so the league will help prop up bad teams.

2) The new TV deal is game changing. It's not quite on par with the NFL where the national TV money pays the players salaries, but we're headed towards a $100-$110 million salary cap with each team averaging $88 million per year from the national deal. Compare that to $31 million per team and a $67 million salary cap.

3) Part of why Benson bought the team was to add more value to the properties he already owned because of the Saints.

4) If AD leaves it's not going to kill the franchise. It seems like there's as much talent as ever in the league, as long as they don't do whatever the hell Philadelphia is doing, they'll rebound and eventually put out a product people want to see.

Honestly the biggest threat to the team staying might be how much franchise values have skyrocketed. Especially if some angry, spiteful relatives get a hold of the franchise, they might try to sell it. But Benson was already ruled competent so I don't see that happening.

21st overall with 17k this year, up from 16.6k last year.

99 percent capacity, that's 13th in the league.

Chad, you may not go but theres always a good bit of people even bad games.

This.

Also we just changed names, colors and gave the history of this franchise to Charlotte. This team may not be here forever because anything can happen with enough time, but they will be in New Orleans for a while

i don't understand why you think this means much. so they are sharing tv revenue, doesn't mean they want franchises out there that aren't money making contributors.

The national TV contract went from covering roughly 47%-55% of your player costs to now covering 80%-90%. Kind of a big difference, especially when you're talking about your largest expense. Teams will have to try a lot harder to not be profitable.

If this were true one of New Orleans or Sacramento would already be in Seattle. The league makes a large portion of it's money by favorable deals from local governments. They left Seattle because the locals wouldn't cooperate. They bought the Hornets to keep them in New Orleans in part because the local government was cooperative, and you don't want to punish cooperative governments, it's bad for the overall business.

As long as the team is owned by the same owner that owns the Saints.
