Griffin is on a conference call today announcing Swin Cash. Jake Madison reported this little nugget for our over analysis

quote:

Jake Madison @NOLAJake 6 minutes ago

Griffin on the AD trade request: "It's not something there is a shot clock on"

He also said he doesn't anticipate anything between now and the draft happening.

That time frame doesn't preclude a draft night agreement, but to me it sounds like he's trying to put pressure on teams to get a deal he likes or he'll wait.

Winning Zion really changed everything. Yes you'd like a maximum return on AD, but you don't desperately need it any more so you can play chicken with other teams and still be ok.

ETA: Andrew Lopez with the full quote.

Full quote here from David Griffin about any potential Anthony Davis deal coming before the Draft.

He tries to downplay the timetable part.

Yeah, if the offers don’t come in, AD might be more valuable as a one year rental to the Pelicans tbh.

You think AD is going to supply any effort to the pels at this point? He will be a negative if we bring him back next year. I don't see him doing an about face; he's too balls deep already.

I really hope a deal is done before the draft.

All these rumours and leaks seem to conclude that AD is crying over the fact Lakers and Knicks do not have the assets to get him.

I will think its comical, but unlikely, if we go into the season with AD on the bench and wait until a playoff team makes a post all star break trade offer.

We don't need another season ruined by AD pouting and the NBA dictating how much and when we play him. That is not the atmosphere we would want Zion coming in to. He needs to be dealt sooner than later.

If they are looking at multiple teams to get involved, I can see it being drawn. It just means the Pelicans won’t settle for a mediocre package.

Let him play his 20 mins a game or even pull a fake injury. We acting like Zion is a baby and needs a perfect situation. False, let AD cry and pout all he wants and let Zion know he is the reason a future hall of famer is crying

rumour has it that Gayle fell in love with Griffin (professionaly speaking) when David put his huge brass balls on her desk during the interview.

Yup. The game is the game. Everything everyone says, ever leak, has some level of calculation to it to change perception or move leverage.

Griffin is just trying to change the perception that we are anxious or hellbent on getting something done before the draft. He is telling teams that he is not in any rush, so if they think they can lowball just to have it done pre-draft he's not buying.

The Lakers and Knicks still control somewhat where he ultimately ends up long term assuming they provide adequate trade value back to the Pels. If they wait a year and allow him to be traded to another team this year, there is no guarantee he will ever be part of their franchise. He could resign with his existing team or the other team (Lakers or Knicks). The almost sure thing to a long term commitment is to acquire him this year and have him resign. Because of this, I think the Pels get what they want for him. Lakers or Knicks can't risk him hitting the open market next year and hopes he chooses their franchise.

Right, this is him just saying, "I'm not satisfied with current offers, and I'm not going to accept something before the draft just to, so up your offers."

If AD wants to sit, we can sit him and not pay his arse.

He wants a trade? We are exploring a trade. He does NOT to get to pick his destination, nor is he guaranteed to leave if the return on him isn’t good enough.
