I know there are other threads going, but I felt like this warranted its own.

What are your expectations of Griffin? Meaning what kind of EVP/POBO do you want him to be? What do you want to avoid?

For me, I want him to be someone that can stand up to the ownership. I feel many times Demps was overshadowed by a mandate and never had the gumption to stand up to powers that be and say, "No, we are doing it this way because I believe in it". We need that kind of leader. I also want him to really ramp up the analytics and scouting departments.

I also want him to be more aggressive in trade talks and contract talks and not have recency bias toward players. Maybe even understand sunk costs.

AD trade is vital sure, but I'm thinking bigger and long term. Drafting well, not overspending when unnecessary, not negotiating against himself, focusing on player development.

whether dell had a vision or not we will likely never know...he never gave "state of the franchise" interviews with any substance, and the whole organization was so fricking secretive all we as fans could judge them on is what happened on the court

i just want to hear it from the man himself...this is who we are, this is what we want to do, this is how we plan to do it

I want him to help us to compete for a championship within the next 3 or 4 years. Whatever he thinks the necessary route for us to take to have a team that can be a championship contender is what I hope he will do.

In short, I want someone who has a definitive vision of where they want this team to end up and puts down the building blocks to get there.

And when I say “team”, I mean the organization as a whole and not the current roster. Rosters change but I want the Pels to do what they need to do in order to compete today and in the future.

Don’t be afraid to take a short term loss in order to reach a long term goal.

I want him to be as aggressive that Dell Demps was but also have the ability to give up on a lost cause and not double down on his mistakes (like Dell Demps).

I expect Griffin to bring respect to the organization. And not one whose future depends on one player. Meaning developing players, expanding analytics, etc. I guess I want it to be similar to the Spurs in that regard. But also I want the Pels to be similar to the Saints. One with incredible continuity amongst players & coaches. One where players want to play. It's not like I want/need us to be in the discussion to get an All-NBA player every summer, but I want to be a destination players trust & enjoy.

Obviously I care about the product on the court, but I don't need this team to compete for championships every year to enjoy this franchise. I just want it to be respected, competitive, make the playoffs a few times, and win a couple of games

Someone who has a strong view of a balanced and competitive team that can match up to others. I enjoyed the Do It Big experiment but it is a mostly gaurd and small forward dominant league and with Jrue we already have alot of fire power to start with. Between Asik, Ajinca, AD, Mirotic, Boogie, and Randle, that was a lot of money recently used that could be used to build a team with better matchups. I would just like a vision and not an experiment to say the least.

In one of his “what would you trade AD for” answers when he was an analyst, Griffin basically said you couldn’t do a full tear down in “that market “. Cleveland’s a smaller market too so I’m sure he’s aware of the business challenges. He might be willing to stand up to ownership, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to spend like the owner is a crazy Russian billionaire.

No, I just mean push his vision and have the balls to see it through whatever that means. Demps seems like he too was scared for his job so didn't stand up for what he truly wanted (whatever that was)

The crazy Russian billionaire wanted a yes man and got one in Billy King.

How many years, exactly, did it take for them to get un-fricked from those decisions? Like 5-6?

Same expectations you should have for anyone heading your favorite sports teams: win titles.

think about the turnaround that Cuban has had with the Mavs. that was a dumpster fire organization for a loooong time in a football first market.

obviously, there aint Cuban $$ coming, but hiring smart people to figure out edges in scouting, development, tactics, making players feel like they are in a first rate organization, while also putting a full court press to get casual, local fans interested

Dell was fricking winging it. He had no vision. Gets rid of Monty to hire a fast pace offsense then trades for the Cousins. He basically had the personnel Monty would’ve thrived with and hires Gentry.
