I am somewhat neutral on Willie, leaning positive. I don't have enough info on him to go hardcore in either direction but I do like what I have heard about him.
I think for McNamara to have the opinion he did a few weeks back means he heard chatter that trickled its way down to him from league circles. And if it trickled its way down to him, that means he was probably very high on a lot of team's radars. In a year he is probably the guy that every team is interviewing. He just happened to break through a year early.
And yeah, obviously the Suns run has something to do with, its foolish to think otherwise. But the way Lester presents it, its supposed to take something away from him. It doesn't necessarily do that.

I read a comment once from someone saying MM is more than a creepy Twitter rat and actually has connections within the organization he spends all his time trashing publicly in between creeping on our sideline reporter.
….I had a good laugh at that fantastical joke.

It is quite possible that the team vetted Green and did not think of him as a top candidate. Then they started digging deeper and liked him more.
And then they interviewed him and were blown away.
That's literally what the process is for. The antithesis of Ed Orgeron hiring Bo Pelini, for example.

I also think their criteria this year was very different than their criteria last year. SVG ended badly, it's natural to seek out the anti SVG to start the healing process.

Interviewing with Washington and Orlando was an accelerant
Like your talking this girl, not so sure about her, but ya buddies start beeping her and then you’re like damn, I need to lock it up

Not saying it will be the case, but over correction can be just as bad or worse.
Relatability matters, but the other thing all the recent finals head coaches have had are experience. Tye Lue’s are kind of rare. And as I deep down suspect was the case with SVG, winning is ultimately going to be the bigger driver of player buy in, not buddy buddy conversations.
Monty, Spoelstra, Vogel, Bud, Kerr, Nurse.
Even among playoff teams the field is overwhelmingly tilted toward somewhat older vet coaches with some sort of past major management experience.

Maybe, but how do you know whether his name came up or not during the search?
They leaked every name but his?
Kinda defies logic.

Going all the way to the opposite end of the spectrum isn’t ideal either. Winning heals, not hiring a guy cause he is nice

I didn't say it was, but I'm sure it played a factor in Willie becoming the top choice. His success is probably going to be very dependent on having a strong staff.

I mean they went with a 3rd party firm to gather potential candidates and their data. He could easily have been in the pool but he didn't make the cut when they narrowed down the list. He wasn't ready last season. It doesn't mean that he came out of nowhere. You didn't hear SVG name until it was days before the hire so it's not unusual that we don't hear about every single candidate that was cpnsidered.

I don’t think the root of Pelicans issues were that the players didn’t like SVG. So it’s kind of crazy to me to go all in in that direction. To say they will need to hire great assistants is an understatement. Or they could have just hired a more well rounded coach to begin with .

I mean if the players liked SVG, I reckon he'd still be here today. It may not have been the only reason but based on everything that's our there, it's a big reason.

Of maybe we just don't know how good of a coach Willie Green actually is or could be. We aren't in his lockerrooms or his interviews.
Having to have strong, experienced assistants isn't a knock against him necessarily. Nash put together an allstar staff of coaches and is even less experienced with a championship level roster.
Having a coach that can relate to players, get the best out of them, and grow with the team isn't a bad thing. We will see.
Griffin still needs to put together a more talented, coherent roster for any coach to succeed.

There was like 4 coaches names leaked last year...

You just don’t want to be opinionated on this one huh bunch.
You don’t ever know how good any coach is going to be
But you have a superstar in Zion & the best you can attract is Willie frickin Green. You waste all this time & the best you can do is Willie frickin green.
To me it’s becoming clear that David Griffiin is toxic. You have JJ & Stan both bad mouthing him to anyone that will listen. I hate to hear what is going on behind closed doors:
You have Zion putting it out that he doesn’t like Nola. Gayle Benson isn’t respected in league circles as an owner. So i think Willie green paints a pretty good picture on what the Pels have going for them. “Oh he better put together strong assistants!” Really, lol? frick that. That shouldn’t be the crutch when you are trying to win with a generational talent.

Stan
Lue
Weaver
VPool
Ham
Mosley

Way more than 4

Ok, so you just proved my point, there's names that weren't leaked, there's no way to know if he was a candidate last season or not.
Dude, you're having this weird meltdown over nothing.

Lester and Gyno always melting on here and I have to step in and be the voice of reason, just like always.
