How come Sochan over Daniels for you? Just curious
I love his size, he’s 6’9 230 with a 7ft wingspan at 19. What does he max out at? Does he have another inch or two in him? How much more weight and strength can he add?
I feel in his prime he’s a guy that can legitimately defend every position and do it well. He’s also already FAR along in understanding off ball and team defense, and again he’s just 19.
I also think he’s more skilled than his role at Baylor allowed him to show, in the same light as Scottie Barnes at FSU. I don’t think he will take the league by storm the same way Scottie did, but he will show flashes and eventually become a guy that’s a good mismatch with his size and athleticism.

Daniels or Mathurin tied for me.
I have Mathurin above Johnny Davis now because of the shot making, but I can’t put him above Daniels. He just does to much where as Mathurin is pretty limited in his all around skill set.

I really didn’t want to hijack this thread so this will be all.
Graham and Kira are signed for the next 3 years (including qualifying offer). Combined its 15.5mil -22/23, 18mil- 23/24, 21 mil- 24/25. We will already be paying around 20 mil for those minutes anyway. Throw in a yearly cap increase and we could comfortably pay a player 20mil for those minutes.
Thats 3 years with using money already on our roster. That’s not including trading Val or anyone else. Also CJ isn’t even on our payroll in year 3 (24/25) and won’t cost us 35mil if he re signs.

Here’s what you’re missing. We need to straight dump Graham and Jax and replace them with a cheap rookie at most to avoid the tax in 2 years. The money you think you are working with for Sexton doesn’t actually exist.
Getting rid of JV or Nance to make room is the “cover one hole by creating another” that Demps always tried to do. The roster is complete and reasonably balanced. Sexton would throw the balance off and create a permanent hole somewhere else that we’d struggle to fill with players that aren’t good enough. Sexton is a luxury with CJ so he doesn’t seem worth unbalancing the roster.

Sochan is more of a late lottery/mid 1st guy to me
Actually like the Diaw comp. maybe Thad Young. I’ve seen the Batum comps and he just doesn’t quite flow with the ball like Batum can. He’s coordinated, obviously, but a little stiff. He will be easier to match up with in the nba than college, where he was able to take some of these bigger guys off the dribble. It won’t come quite as easy. It’s paramount he develops some capability to knock down the 3.
I can’t see him guarding guards in the league.
But definitely 3-5. Could be a Luka stopper potentially if all goes right

Ideally he’s a switchable big that can guard 3-5 at a high level, and not get totally destroyed by smaller players. He’s only 19 and he’s bigger than both Diaw and Young were at the time when they were drafted (both drafted at 21 years old). If he grows a bit and puts on a little more weight, I think he could be an effective 5 (at 6-10, 250ish). IMO, the playmaking on offensive is just icing on the cake, developing an effective jumpshot is paramount (which I think he’ll be able to do).

Not sure either side is "wrong" on taking or leaving Sochan. If you think we need more 3-pt shooting...it's easy to see why you would not want Sochan. If you think we will have enough 3-pt shooting without adding another shooter...it's easy to see why you think Sochan could give us some much needed help at what appears to be a VERY weak area on our defensive end of the court. I can see both sides of this one...I just happen to believe we'll have plenty of 3-pt shooting next year so...

Thad came into the league as a 19yr old 1 & done. And I don’t disagree with your point but if he gets to 250 the players he is able to guard changes dramatically.
I hesitated to throw it out there because of the size differentials, but he has some of the same mannerisms as Al Horford. Is that who he is with 20lbs? Idk. Just kinda moves & dribbles like him. Plays at that calculated pace. High dribble. Better handles, but both good passers. Like both maybe were guards before big growth spurts

He’s 1-5 switchable, without a doubt. Pretty much any scouting report you read agrees with that. He defended 1-5 at Baylor and was fantastic at it.

Apparently I can’t math, regardless he’s larger than both of them already. 2 inches taller than Thad when he entered the league. Who knows if it’ll happen, but I think there’s a chance that he grows more. Regardless, even at 6’9 he can play some 5 versus all except the largest centers. That weight would put him at basically Bam’s size. IMO, the real upside to Sochan is his potential to play the 5.

Pretty sure Horford is 6'9" 240 lbs. Funny thing about Horford is...for first 8 yrs of his career, he shot 8 3-pt shots PER YEAR. Then, when he and a bunch of others figured out how valuable a "5" shooting 3s could be...he averaged 233 3-pt shots per season for the past 7 yrs.
Lopez with the Bucks is even funnier. First 8 yrs, he took 4 3-pt shots per season then... Eureka!! He has shot 366 3-pt shots per season for the past 5 yrs. Folks just have NO idea how valuable a "5" shooting 3s is...in today's game, assuming he can play solid D of course. But, they'll figure it out eventually...I'm hopin' the Pels have already figured it out...and will draft accordingly this year.

A 19yr old play making 6’10” forward who can guard 1-5 is a top 5 pick. You have turned Sochan into bill brasky

After watching these Celtics im cool with drafting a defensive player.

Like I said, every scouting report you come across agrees he can defend 1-5, I’m not turning him into anything, it’s universally agreed upon.
He was also a sub 30% three point shooter and shot 57% from the line. There are legitimate reasons he’s not viewed as a top 5 pick, but I would also say he’s been an incredibly quick riser on boards. He wasn’t even a first round lock in January. I think he was like 28th or 29th on Sam Vecenie’s first big board. If he’s a guy that shot 36% from three and 72% from the line where is he?
But with all that said, he is a 6’9 forward with secondary ball handler upside.
Literally KOC’s blurb:
quote:
Capable of excelling as an athletic two-way player who can defend all five positions, and if he develops a jump shot he has limitless potential.

Agreed. Sochan can guard 1-5 as well as anyone in this draft.

Bear in mind, Horford is 6'9" 240 lbs AND 36 years old...and will be the starting center...in the NBA finals.

It’s 2022, a chimpanzee could shoot 35% from 3 with an offseason of training. Shooting should not really be considered a knock anymore for teenagers. I don’t know how many examples we need to realize that

What an idiotic statement. Go back over the last decade of lottery guys who shot sub 30% from three in college and became consistently average shooters in the NBA.
Spoiler: I already know the answer, and the list is incredibly short.

The Celtics have 3 guys on their team alone lol
