and land a player that’s in a tier above where we pick now.
It's usually really expensive to tier jump which is why it so rarely happens. I don't know enough about Ivey/Sharpe/Murray to say if they are worth trading up for. What I do know is that the most impactful do-over of the AD/Demps era would have been to give up a future 1st to jump from 10 to 8 and draft Drummond. He was in a different tier of talent and Toronto had no interest in him. If the Kings have no interest in the 2nd tier of this draft and you can get there for a trade like a future 1st and Jaxson, that seems like a pretty cheap price to get a guy with an All Star ceiling rather than a guy with a role playing starter ceiling.

A team like the warriors who is also trying to win now went for the youngest guy in the draft who many may have thought would take a few years to contribute in big games is playing significant minutes in the playoffs and has now helped his team make the finals. Kuminga is a great example on how stupid it is to just pick the older experienced guys because you think you need to pick the polished players to win trophies now. Great talents will develop and surpass the talents of the win now average role player types. Especially if they already have skill sets that are valuable from the jump (like Kuminga with his defense)
A guy like Ziaire Williams fits this as well. Memphis took a lot of crap for taking him as early as they did, but he played 17 mpg for them.
And another thing, neither are shooting from the outside. Kuminga at 23% from three and I think Williams was at 31%. But both have good size, defend, and are multi-faceted players on both ends. All the more reason to take Sochan or Daniels.

That’s kind of the way I looked at it. The Kings are in a weird spot because Ivey seems to be the consensus #4 guy but he’s a rough fit with their current roster.
I typically say disregard fit but they haven’t made the playoffs in 16 years and apparently their owner has passed down a directive that they need to make the playoffs. So there are quite a few ways they could go.
I also think we may be in an interesting spot where a team like Detroit or Indiana may think their pick range and our pick range kind of blend together, so they can move back a few spots and pick up more assets and still take a guy they like.
Take Detroit for example, they could probably use a rim protecting big and lob threat…does #8 (Duren?), Jax, and a future protected first interest them for #5? We take Murray, Sharpe, maybe Ivey depending what Sacramento does?

They’re saying the same thing about Sharpe. I hope it’s triune, the draft would be so exciting.

I think the Rockets take Ivey. Lock down the backcourt with Green and build from there.

Makes you wonder if that scenario did play out who would actually fall to 4 or 5. Seems like it’ll be either Jabari or Paolo. Jabari on the board at 4 or 5 might be interesting. Especially since Clark said Griff was a big fan of his a few weeks back.
Could just be a coincidence but it seems like Trajan and Griff seem to be going for the Southeast region connection when it comes to players to draft of late. Even Jose with his Atlanta/Georgia Tech ties even tho he’s from NY

Yeah they have some Ochai types too.
I swear every top 10 team has multiple.
Right now, we have Herb and Trey as guys in that mold.
Ochai would be a nice blend/complement to both of those guys. Imagine a small ball lineup of Point Zion, Ochai, Herb, Ingram, Murphy. I think you can get away with a lineup like that against non traditional centers. Obviously we have CJ and Jose we can throw in the mix for that small ball lineup as well.
Again I’m not advocating pick 8. Trade back to pick 12-16 if our target isn’t there at 8 and I’m very happy.
Add assets to the warchest and add a win now role player with good length and athleticism.
There are a lot of paths for me to be satisfied on draft night. Id be hyped if we moved up and picked Ivey. I’d be hyped if Keegan or Sharpe randomly fell. I’d be hyped picking Daniels or Matthy. I’d be hyped if we traded back and picked Ochai. Etc.

How many of those teams invested a top-10 pick in those Ochai types?

1) Jeremy Sochan (multiple better long wing options, kid is not guarding legit NBA 5s or spacing floor ever)
2) Jalen Duren (love his upside, likely not playable in playoffs with this team)
3) Johnny Davis (was high at one point on his fit but not sure how he plays off the ball and we have enough on the ball guys, does not profile as a true 6th man gunner enough to take)

Oh and Sharpe too...
Not for me. It’d be a risk but since we’re kinda playing with house money in no way would I mind swinging for a potential superstar.
