Gayle Benson: I have left that decision in Joe Dumars hands

Question: The Pelicans are 150-188 (.444) and have not won a playoff series in Willie Green’s four-plus seasons as head coach. There have been national reports that the organization is “monitoring” his job status. How do you assess the job he’s done so far as head coach? Benson: "I hired Joe Dumars because we needed a change in leadership at that top level of the Pelicans. I believe in Joe, and Joe knows exactly the stats you noted. We need to improve immediately. Our roster is built for success right now. I will rely on Joe to make these decisions and changes as he sees fit."

Question: Specifically as it pertains to Willie Green, how do you feel about the job he has done? Benson: “I really like Willie Green, but I hired Joe Dumars to assess our basketball operation. And that’s what he is doing. He is assessing Willie and all the players. He and I spent the entire halftime (of the Portland Trail Blazers game on Wednesday night) talking. When he makes a decision, that's up to him. That's why I hired him. I trust Joe, because I feel like he knows people. He's known Willie since he was a child, so they know each other. And if he can fix that problem, then he'll fix it. If he can't, then that'll be his decision, not mine. I've left that in his hands.”
So it is Joe
This is from a Q&A from Jeff Duncan with Gayle

If tweet fails to load, click here. She also confirms renovations for the SKC and a long term lease agreement negotiations are underway.
They are also looking at concessions

Yes... Because an owner has never ever in any business ever pointed blame towards a lesser employee to relieve tension or doubt.

Yeah, she wouldn’t do that a couple months into his tenure…
That’s how you ruin a relationship quick

She already is.... She makes the shots. She ultimately could have overruled Joe and already fired him...
The fact that she's saying "its up to him" points the blame to him even though she should have already made that call herself.

Benson: "Yes. Let me be clear about this: The teams are not for sale. That's in capital letters. I want everybody to know the teams are not for sale. I get tired of people asking me (if they're for sale). I'm going to turn 79 in January, but I'm pretty healthy. I hear that people want to talk to me about buying the team. I'm like, well, that's a waste of my time. That's not going to happen. And people need to calm down about the team moving. "And finally, I just want everyone to know that I'm doing everything that I can, other than throwing the ball and catching it and getting the ball in the hoop. I can't do any more than I'm doing. I'm giving them (the teams) the money. I've done everything I can to help these guys. After every game, win or lose, both teams, I'm in that locker room. When they come in from the field or off the court, I'm hugging every one of them, win or lose. I can't do any more than let them know I'm supporting them. I don't know what else I can do."
Another excerpt I find interesting.
She also acknowledges she doesn’t know the inner workings of everything and that’s why she delegates.
Also says when she passes the teams will be sold to the highest bidder, and there is now a committee of people to oversee the distribution of the funds instead of one person

Beautifully stated Mrs b. Exactly how. The organization should run

She may have been blocking it before but as she said they talked during the halftime of Blazers game and she may have gave the clearance to fire him as soon as Joe sees fit.
No way to tell for sure, but this shows the ball is now in Joe’s court

I’m probably being overly optimistic but I think this is setting in motion the Willie firing coming very soon.
Maybe the reports of after the home stretch are true. I just don’t get why they would wait to do it if he’s going to be gone anyway.

It has to be, this is the owner basically saying I have given the ok to fire him as soon as you deem it is necessary and best for the team
I think it comes after the Lakers game

She’s not wrong, this roster should be in the top 10 in the west

I read this as "I wanted Willie to stay as coach and I told Joe that and let's see how it goes this year. It's not going good so at halftime I told him he can do whatever he wants/it's ok to fire him."

I just can’t believe there’s people that still defend her and like her. It’s so damn pathetic

I think this is the most likely scenario

Good to see they got it all worked out in the 15 minutes of half time.
We're in good hands.

That’s likely when the green light was given…
I’m sure they’ve been talking about it and trying to give Willie the benefit of turning it around and she finally came to the realization it won’t happen

She needs to be more forward facing. I think that would help mitigate some of the noise surrounding her.
Frankly, in my opinion, the real cancer in that organization is Dennis Lauscha.
