Zion Williamson | Duke | Fr | PF | 6-7

Folks have been trotting out comparisons for Williamson for a while now. They say he's built like Charles Barkley. They say he dunks like Blake Griffin. And I can see those things, I guess. But here's the truth: Zion Williamson is built more like The Incredible Hulk than Charles Barkley — and there really isn't a great basketball comp for him. The 6-foot-7, 285-pound forward averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds in 30 minutes per game as a freshman at Duke. He had a Player Efficiency Rating of 42.55 — which was nearly five points higher than anybody else in college basketball. He was the CBS Sports National Player of the Year. I'm not saying there's never been a prospect this good. But what I can say is that there's never been a prospect this unique. Simply put, nobody on the planet Zion's size can do the things Zion does. He moves like a small man — even though he's a massive man. He's an overwhelming physical specimen, a well-rounded and skilled basketball player. He's a franchise-changing superstar — and a lock to go No. 1 in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Gary would have burned his couch if Zion would have ended up at his Memphis Grizzlies. So close, lol.

That is the only thing, his shot is pretty ugly but it goes in more often than it should.

Recall AD's development from a low block guy to a baseline 15 footer to a 34% three..

HE went from 0.2 attempts per game to 2 attempts per game when guess who showed up....

Don't credit Gentry. Credit Kevin Hanson. He is going to be the staff MVP over the next few years. He is the name everyone should know

I’ve always thought Hanson was your link to the organization

AD improved his jump shot a good bit in the pros. It's not far fetched to think he can as well. Zion really is a unique prospect. Barkley seems like the most fitting or even remotely close comparison.

This x100. Dude rebuilt AD's jumper.

Didn't we hire him after AD's rookie year?

There are many skill sets that if you don't possess them, you never will.

Shooting is not one of those

This. It will change him from being a superstar to being a LeBron James type level talent where we consider him one of the greats.

I don’t know if he will ever develop that shot. We’ll see. Jordan and LeBron did. We’ll see if Zion will

I wonder how he'd do in the point center role ala how jokic is used?

Though I realize jokic is a far better shooter atm

I see some young Blake Griffin too. An athletic marvel dunking on everyone. Doesn't anyone remember that Blake?

Didn't he rebuild Tyreke's jumper into something respectable too?

Crewz has harped on the Larry Johnson comp and the stats and size match up eerily.

Imagine if Grandmama had a back. He was a 20-10 guy as a rookie with Prime Alonzo Mourning.

Imagine that production but 4 years younger, more athletic, higher ceiling and the best medical staff at the game.

LJ is a very good one

I think he is a blend of Griffin and Z Randolph.

The encouraging thing about Zion's main weakness is that he has soft touch and soft hands despite his poor mechanics. It can be fixed in a year or two to be plenty good enough to let all of his other monster traits shine.

Barkley had a very nice run in the NBA but i would still like to think Barkley would be the near floor of Zion's real potential.
