Just pulling together bits and pieces from across the web.

quote:

"This year we have younger guys who know our system and so it takes a little bit longer. It is a different gym. We are a tad bit more athletic, so guys were flying up and down the floor today. Outside of that, it's still basketball. A lot of mistakes, but the guys played hard today. And that's what we want."

Jim Eichenhofer ?@Jim_Eichenhofer

Ryan Anderson on emphasis of first Hornets practice: "Monty is a huge defense-first coach. We mostly worked on how to help your teammates."

Anthony Davis on camp: "I need this 3-week stretch. Everyone does. We have a lot of new faces, young guys.We need this time to be NBA-ready"

Monty, joking about developing young players: "They're like your kids. Some days you're excited about them. Some days you want to eat them."

Monty on young players: "But you've got to be committed to them. There will be ups and downs. But this is a team this city can commit to."

John Reid ?@JohnReidTP

Hornets in final hour of work in the first of two practices today. Owner Tom Benson watching practice.

Hornets' Anthony. Davis: ``Great first day, we went over a couple of sets and focused on defense a lot.''

Jimmy Smith ?@JimmySmithtp

As expected, @TheOfficialEG10 sits out first #Hornets practice of the year. LINK

I hope this doesn't lead to a trend for the 2012-2013 season

When media was allowed into the gym, as the team was running post-practice wind sprints, Gordon, who is being held out with a sore right knee, was working on an eliptical machines off to the side at one of the baselines.

I posted photos of him running up sand dunes this summer. I guess that was technically straight running and not much cutting, but you'd think if this was just post surgery soreness it'd have happened back then, not now. I don't consider this "precautionary measure" a good sign.

Not good but not time to worry just yet. The Hornets know what they're doing. He's the franchise guard. They don't want to jeopardize that. If he's feeling sore, he can get all the rest he needs.

Although Coach Monty Williams didn't work much on offense during Tuesday's morning session, the few plays they went through Davis saw immediately the way Anderson can draw defenders away from the post which could lead to him getting more lob passes for dunks.

...``With Ryan being able to shoot, it really helps a lot,’’ Davis said after the first of two practices Tuesday at the Alario Center. ``It’s going to open up lobs for me and for shooters to get easy drives.’’

...``I think it’s a big thing to open up this offense here,’’ Anderson said. ``(Teams) can pick their poison if they want to focus on me and take me out of the offense, then he’s (Davis) going to have wide open dunks all night. If they want to focus on either one of our point guards, they’re going to have wide open layups. The same thing with him (Davis) if they want to double down on him then I’m going to be open at the 3-point line. It’s really tough to guard and that’s what we did at Orlando.’’

...``I think I bring versatility with this team,’’ Anderson said. ``I’m kind of an inside and outside presence. It’s something a little different. It doesn’t really make a difference if its Dwight Howard (his former teammate with the Magic) or Anthony Davis. They both can dunk the ball and they both are athletic. They both can finish. I’m excited to play with Anthony.''

It's when you combine the ability to foresee advantages before they're there, having a high awareness of how things will break down AND have tremendous physical talent, that's what makes players elite.

...must...contain...excitement...

the addition of Anderson is great because you have guards like gordon, rivers, and vazquez who all like to get in the paint which opens up the perimeter, and allows you to feed guys like davis

LOL at the tweet saying Eric Gordon sat out the first practice of the year. When will this dude ever get healthy.

The more I think about it, the more excited about the potential of Robin Lopez playing next to Davis with Anderson out there as well. That's a very big front court and I think with all the attention Davis will have on him from defenders, Lopez will get some easy looks.

Defensively in the post, we should be better than we've been since the Chandler days. Maybe even better since West was always somewhat hit or miss.
